The Silver Scoop

Last Week's Learning
Upcoming Events
Our special class time will change on Tuesday through Friday. We will have specials at the end of the day, from 2:50-3:30. On Friday, our lunch will be pushed back to 12:45 instead of 12:25. Flexibility will be the name of the game as all five fourth grade use our three computer labs to complete 10 different test sessions this week. Since at any given time of the day one of our classes will be testing, we will not switch classes for STARS Club, math, or reading every day this week. STARS Clubs and math classes will only meet on Monday. Reading classes will meet on Monday and Tuesday. Also, since it is ISTEP week, there will be no spelling list to study and no homework this week.
This week's special schedule:
Monday--Music, Tuesday--Art, Wednesday--Gym, Thursday--Computer Lab, Friday--Library
What We Are Studying This Week
DOL/Journal -- This week the students will do Week #14 of Daily Paragraph Editing, but there will be no quiz this week. The students will not write in their journals this week either, as many of our ISTEP tests begin right away in the morning.
STARS Club -- Please check with your child about his/her STARS Club novel. STARS Clubs will only meet on Monday this week.
Math -- We are only meeting on Monday this week. We will do Lesson 13-8 on comparing and ordering decimal numbers.
Science -- We have nearly finished our textbook, and with the Science ISTEP test next Monday, we are going to do some end-of-the-year review. The students will use clickers to answer the questions on ISTEP Practice Test B. Then they will work independently on Practice Test C, which will be for a grade. These practice tests give us lots of discussion about past units of study and are written by our textbook publisher, so they follow along with everything the students have learned this year.
Word Work -- There is NO SPELLING this week! :)
Reading -- If you have questions about your child's reading class, please contact his/her reading teacher. Reading classes will only meet on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Language -- We are going to review a variety of language skills this week using the clickers to answer questions from past Acuity tests. We should finally have time to begin publishing the students' autobiography timeline writing, too.
Social Studies -- We will read the picture book The Floating House to learn how a pioneer family could travel by river to settle in Indiana. We will also read articles from the Indiana Studies Weekly newspaper. There will be in-class assignments to go along with both of these texts.
