RED RIBBON WEEK ACTIVITIES
Chess Club Rules
Artesian Chess Club Procedures During COVID Social Distancing
This year, we will have special procedures in place to help keep everyone safe. We want this to be fun for the kids, and we expect to learn and adjust as we go. Thank you for helping us!
1) Club will meet during “Green” and “Yellow” stoplight periods, but not during “Red” periods.
2) Club will will meet once per week on Tuesday nights from 6pm to 7pm starting September
29th.
3) Meetings for all grade levels will be at the Martinsville High School cafeteria.
4) We will enter and exit the cafeteria directly from the outside. Go through the courtyard
across the street from the Softball field and use the door leading to the cafeteria.
5) Except for drop off and pick up, we are not allowing parents and guardians in the cafeteria.
We will have some teachers and volunteers to help us run the club this year.
6) Face masks must be worn at all times. Kids should bring their own masks.
7) Kids will use vinyl gloves while playing games. Gloves will be provided. If your child has a
vinyl allergy, please bring you own gloves.
8) During club meetings, we will only allow 2 kids to sit at a table while playing their match.
The cafeteria uses round tables which will be spaced appropriately.
9) Each kid will be given a bag of chess pieces (black and white) to use for the night. We will
ask kids to only touch and move their own pieces.
10) Because we are required by the school district to trace contacts, we will ask each player to
notate their games and turn them in. Pencils and notation sheets will be provided.
11) We will spray chess boards between matches.
12) We will clean all chess equipment each week between meetings.
13) As always, we will teach new players how to play chess, so new players can join

After Dec 31, all students will return to their approved eligibility status. Therefore, families can still complete free/reduced applications. Please note, charges still apply for ala carte items.
- Lunch will be served and eaten in the classroom.
