Back to School
Our School was Featured on WZDX News on the very first day of school!
MADISON COUNTY, Ala. - The schools buses are rolling and the pencils are sharpened as Madison County students went back to school today. First graders at Mount Carmel started their day reading about a girl named Flossy, and it's safe to say they were happy to be back for their first day of school.
"I was really excited and I really, really, really like it," smiles first grade student Emma Pittman, who is in Mrs. Tate's class at Mount Carmel Elementary School. These young students will make friends, have new experiences, and learn... a lot.
"When I was in first grade we just learned sounds and sang songs," shares first grade teacher Mary Tate at Mount Carmel Elementary. "But today children will leave first grade reading at a fluent level of around at least 48 words a minute."
But Mrs. Tate doesn't just see this as the first day of a school year, she sees something more. "When you look around the room and you see children coming down the hallway, you know that somebody's future has just arrived today," says Mrs. Tate. Now their journey can take off as these first graders chase their dreams.
"I want to be a nurse," shares first grader Emma Pittman. "My mom was a nurse, but now she is a nurse practitioner."
"I want to help kids who are sick," says first grader Reed Andreani.
"I might to be a vet or I might work at the zoo or something," explains first grader Aria Wells.
But no matter where their lives take them, it is easy to see this is a first grade classroom filled with a whole lot of motivated kids.
Teacher of the Year
Mr. Keith White
Second Grade Teacher
A colleague said of Mr. White, "Keith White is the definition of a team player. He goes above and beyond to help out all of his coworkers with ANYTHING they need. It can be instruction, a shoulder to cry on, someone to make you laugh, help with technology, or just absolutely everything and anything- he is your man. He is dedicated to all of the Mt.Carmel students, families, and the community. He 100% deserves to be Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019."
We appreciate you.
Support Person of the Year
Ms. Virginia Fichten
Bookkeeper
A teacher described Ms. Fichten, "Ms. Ginny always goes above and beyond her job title to help anyone in this school. Mt. Carmel is a better place because of her! She is always willing to help, patient, and very thorough! Ms. Ginny is extremely dependable and will do anything she can to get the job done. She's truly an asset to our school!
