SURVEY SAYS
Thank you in advance for taking part in our Division Assurance Survey! Your feedback is most welcome to help our school celebrate and improve as we grow!
You will soon be receiving a code to participate in an Alberta Education Assurance Measures survey. Each year students in grade 4, 7, and 10 throughout Alberta, and their parents, participate in this survey. (Please note that in smaller schools, students and parents of other grade levels may also be invited to participate in order to ensure adequate sample sizes. For SKTA this survey was sent to parents of students in grades 4 & 5.)
Alberta Education will send you a code directly, via Canada Post, and ask you to go to this link to complete the survey. Each code allows you to complete the survey once, and it is directly linked to your child’s school. Families who have more than one child in these designated grades will receive more than one code.
We know that you have probably just completed our Division Assurance Survey, and we thank you for that. While there are many similarities between these two surveys, they are collected by different organizations. The first is collected by our school division and the second is collected by Alberta Education. Both are very important sources of feedback and excellent opportunities for parents to share their voice in regards to their child’s education. We are grateful for your participation in both surveys and sincerely appreciate your time.
If you have any questions or require assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Giacobbo. lgiacobbo@gsacrd.ab.ca

Pink Shirt Day
In Canada, one in three students have reported being bullied (Bullying Canada, 2022). Both the victims of bullying and the bullies are at risk of higher rates of suicide (Holt et al, 2015, as cited HERE). These statistics highlight how serious the problem of bullying remains.
Pink Shirt Day is a day to wear a pink shirt or some token of pink to show support and stand up for the victims of bullying. We often talk about how to stand up to bullies, but what if your child is the one doing the bullying? This can be a very tough conversation to have if you know or suspect that your child may be perpetrating acts of bullying. Take the time to reflect with your child and understand from their perspective. Do not judge their actions. Some reasons kids may bully others include seeking attention from others, low self-esteem, or an inability to properly express their feelings (Stomp Out Bullying, 2022). Developing a trusting and open line of communication might be one way to help your child understand that bullying is not okay.
For tips on what you can do to help your child stop bullying and understand that bullying is not okay, check out this guide from GSACRD Voice below:
Be Kind: Choose to Spread Kindness Online
Important Dates for discussing mental health with teens:
February 22nd: Pink Shirt Day #BEKIND #BULLYINGAWARENESS (GSACRD is recognizing Pink Shirt Day on the 21st)
March: International Women's Month
March 10th: National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day #NWGHAAD
March 31st: Transgender Day of Visibility #TDOV
April: Stress Awareness Month
May 17th: International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia #IDAHOT2023
June 1st: Pride Month #LGBTQ2S+ #PRIDE2023
Building healthy relationships is one of the best ways to prevent bullying and create safe environments. Getting involved is easy! Wear your pink shirt, take a photo and share it on social media with the #PinkShirtDay and #BeKindAB hashtags! Check out https://www.pinkshirtday.ca/resources for more resources on cyberbullying, support for parents and teachers and tips for cyber safety. Pink Shirt Day is being recognized on February 21st throughout GSACRD.
Be Kind: Cyberbullying Awareness
CYBERBULLYING is using online and mobile technology to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated & hostile manner.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE, ASK FOR HELP
1) Talk about it with someone you trust, like a school counsellor or trusted adult, and try to find a healthy way to change what is happening or how you react to it.
2) Call a helpline – reaching out to a counsellor in an anonymous way can help make talking about it easier. KidsHelpPhone. 1-800-668-6868. kidshelpphone.ca
