OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL T2 W8
TE KURA O TO MATOU WAHINE O RUATA
HELLO, KIA ORA, KIA ORĀNA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA, NAMASTE, KUMUSTA...
Welcome to Week 8 and to this special time of the year - MATARIKI. We hope this newsletter finds you all going well and taking good care of yourselves. We have begun to see a return to health for our tamariki and staff - we have had a large number of children away since the start of the term and it is wonderful to see so many now well. Thank you for your support in trying to keep our tamariki well.
The children/tamariki are all excited to learn more about Matariki- there are many exciting things happening in all the classrooms as we learn more about the Māori New Year. A reminder that school is closed as we celebrate the first Matariki public holiday on FRIDAY.
SAFETY FOR OUR CHILDREN
Last week we had an incident on the road side outside the front of school. We ask that you do not park in front of driveways or on the yellow lines. We know parking is limited so we appreciate your understanding with this. We do not want to upset our neighbours or cause any injury to children entering or leaving our school areas.
CONFERENCES AND MID YEAR REPORTING
We hope you have been able to book a time via the online booking system (see the instructions below) to meet with your child's teacher face to face in your child's classroom. We are very much looking forward to it.
As we still have Covid and have had a lot of illness in the school with a number of viruses affecting a large number of children and staff, we ask that you wear a mask and sanitise on entering your child's classroom for your conference.
THIS WEEK:
Monday - Basketball practise
Thursday -Ki o Rahi interschool competition,
Friday - SCHOOL CLOSED FOR MATARIKI
Saturday - Year 5/6 Netball on this weekend

SchooI Board Parent Election 2022

Our school will be undertaking a parent election for 4 School Board vacancies. This process will start with the issuing of nomination papers to our caregiver community by Friday 15th July 2022.
We have employed CES to undertake the election process on our behalf. This year with legislative change, our nomination form and full instruction on how to place your nomination into our own School’s Election website will be emailed to you if we have your email address in our database or you will receive it by post if we don’t have your email in our database.
Nomination papers will also be available at the school office. The school will send those on to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.
Nominations close on Wednesday 3rd August at 12 noon. Election day is Wednesday 7th September.
We look forward to your participation in this process.

CATHOLIC CHARACTER CORNER
Week 8: (20-23 June)
Our schools are linked to the parish(es). Archbishop Paul Martin says, “...the parish does not exist outside of me. If I never make any time available to help, to participate, to be trained, or be part of a group, then nothing will ever happen…we do lead full lives, but the life of our parish won't be vibrant if none of us contributes, and our brothers and sisters wont grow in holiness and faith, and therefore want to bring others to the Good News, if we only give one hour a week to Mass on Sunday.” (Archbishop Paul Martin, Extract from Inform, Issue 131- Lent 2022)
Tuesday 22 June is the Feast Day of St Paulinus of Nola.
It is not common to receive the faith from two “giants” - but that’s exactly what happened with St. Paulinus, whose conversion is credited to the influence of Sts. Ambrose and Augustine. Known for his charitable works, Paulinus was elected Bishop of the Italian city of Nola. He died in the year 431.
