Not many people cared about the arts in the days of the Renaissance, as most were struggling to survive the Black Death- the bubonic plague.
The Medici - Patrons of the Renaissance
King Francis I of France aka the Knight-King
He initiated the Renaissance by inviting several artists to work on building him a hunting lodge. He acquired the Mona Lisa, an artwork Leonardo da Vinci had brought along.
Lorenzo de' Medici aka Lorenzo the Magnificent
Lorenzo was also a patron, or supporter, to scholars, artists, and poets alike. He is best known for sponsoring Botticelli and Michelangelo.
Pope Julius II aka Warrior Pope
Pope Julius II patronized Michelangelo, Bramante, and Raphael. He's most known for his close relationship with Michelangelo.
