What Does it Mean to be Invisible?
How can you raise awareness about invisible populations?
Whole class novel - Things Not Seen
Explanation: This shows that Bobby was invisible by his parents by them not knowing what he was capable of doing and it also shows what Alicia is not capable of doing.
Emily King Gallery Walk (multimedia examples of invisibility)
Evidence:
- Don't have ability to do things people with sight do
- such as being an athlete and being a pilot
- don't find love many times
- don't have an equal education
Explanation: This shows how blind people are invisible in their daily live because they do not have the same opportunities as people with good eye sight. Many people don't even let them try to do things because they think it is impossible to do it which makes them invisible.
“Homeless Children” - nonfiction article
- 2.5 million kids are homeless
- 1.1 million kids in school do not have a stable adress
- 40 percent of homeless school children have mental health issues
- It is mostly caused by young mothers that can not provide for their family
- President Obama planned to stop homelessness in 2020
Explanation: Homeless children are invisible because there are 2.5 million kids that are homeless and the president wants to end it in 2020 which is 5 years away. Many kids may die up to then if they can not provide for themselves and if they have a mental issue even a shorter amount of time until they die.
