Leadership Message

Closer to Jesus: A Time to Pray

Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit”. -John 12:20-24

As we enter the fifth Sunday of Lent, we continue on our Lenten journeys of sacrifice, prayer, and giving. During Lent, we listen a little closer to what God wants us to do and how He wants us to share our gifts with one another. Lent reminds us that there is a time for every activity to help us walk closer to Jesus; a time to act and a time to pray. Sometimes we are called to go out and be disciples of Christ-to share, to give, to forgive, to do what’s right. At other times, spending time alone with God in prayer gives us hope, strength, and wisdom. Praying and listening to God helps plant the important seeds of our faith. During Monday assembly our Faith Team leaders will be inviting staff and students to come to our Chapel and celebrate prayer through Prayer Cards. We continue to hold our "Prayer Pals" close in heart during our daily prayers. This month our Chaplain, Mrs. Y. Morin will devote a special block in our chapel to pray the rosary with students.

As Father Kris challenges us in his video below, “Do we pray like it’s game time?”

Blessings,

Mrs. Boehm

Celebrating Autism Awareness Month: Racing with Autism Presentation at SJ!

We continue to celebrate the beautiful diversity in all of us that creates the mosaic of God's masterpiece. This month we celebrate Autism Awareness Month. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a broad range of conditions often characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, and speech. There is no one type of autism, but many.

Next Friday, April 12 at 1:00 pm, we have a special presentation heading our way, "Racing with Autism". This presentation has been made possible by the altruistic efforts and the huge "sister love" of a local young lady, Akayla Montague. Akayla wanted to do something to bring greater awareness and understanding of autism for her little brother. She has worked diligently with community connections and was able to bring the presentation to our school community without cost to Saint John XXIII! The Autism Reality Experience will also be made available to our SJ staff Friday afternoon. Thank-you Akayla!

Starting Monday, if your child would like, there will be bracelets available for sale in the office (see brochure below). Bracelets will be on sale this Monday to Friday.

Green Shirt Day: Monday, April 8

On April 6, 2018, Canadians were heartbroken to hear the news of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. Of the 29 passengers, sixteen lost their lives and thirteen will all bear physical and emotional scars for life.

On April 7, 2018, Humboldt Broncos defenceman, Logan Boulet succumbed to his injuries, his parents, Bernadine and Toby Boulet offered to donate his organs so that six lives could live on. They did so, because Logan told his parents, he was registering as an organ donor, and that he was inspired by his coach and mentor Ric Suggitt. Ric passed on June 27th, 2017 and was also an organ donor and saved 6 lives.

On Monday, April 8th Saint John XXIII students will be wearing green as part of the Green Shirt Day For Organ Donor Awareness and Registration. Please check out the site https://greenshirtday.ca/ for more information on how you can register for organ donation.

Staff Parking Lot Safety: Please help keep our SJ kids safe

We would like to kindly remind our parents to refrain from using the Staff Parking, especially during the arrival and dismissal of our students-8:15-8:50 am and 3-3:45 pm. These are high traffic and active times with students arriving and leaving. To keep our students safe, we need to keep the parking lot free of traffic during these times.Thank-you to parents for finding a meeting spot with your child and parking along the street, behind the school, or across at the Sportsplex and walking. There are walking paths along the school that do not require street crossing and for those parents who drop off across the street, we have supervision each morning and afternoon at the bus and crosswalk section.

Please note this does not apply to any families who require handi-cap parking or who are coming in to volunteer. We sincerely thank-you for your understanding and cooperation. Our student safety must always trump convenience.
