7 Ways Parents Can Get Their Kids Excited About Writing

Big image

Attendance matters from the first day to the last. The following are tips for parents from AttendanceWorks.org and serve as reminders for a successful school year.

Getting your child to school on-time, every day, unless he/she is sick, is something that you can do to ensure your child has a chance to succeed in school. While others can help, you are the bottom line. You can promote good attendance when you:

  • Establish and stick to the basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.) that will help your child develop the habit of on-time attendance.
  • Talk to your child about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with the teacher, administrator or after school provider to get them excited about going to school.
  • Come up with back up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor or fellow parents) to help you get your child to school if something comes up (e.g. another child gets sick, your car breaks down, etc.).
  • Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g. transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems) that make it difficult to get your child to school. Other parents, your child’s teacher, administrators, social worker, school nurse, after school providers or community agencies can help you problem solve or connect you to a needed resource.
  • If your child is absent, work with teachers to make sure she or he has an opportunity to learn and make up for the academics missed.

Upcoming Madras Parent Volunteer Training

We love and appreciate Madras parents and are grateful for the many things they do for us throughout the year. If you are a parent who plans to volunteer at the school or at a school event during the upcoming school year, please plan to attend one of our volunteer training sessions (approximately 20-30 minutes). These will be held throughout the year at different times in the MMS media center or conference room for your convenience. (Sign in at the front office and our secretary can direct you.) If we can answer any questions about the training, please feel free to contact Donna Eskut via email or phone (770-254-2744).

Amy Brandon, PTSO President

Welcome to Madras! The purpose of our PTSO is to help improve our school by combining the efforts of parents, students, and teachers. We invite you to join PTSO to help make our school a better place to work and learn! Our fundraising efforts have benefited a variety of projects in the past including school building improvements, teacher instructional requests, equipment for the fine arts department, instructional technology purchases, and athletic programs. This year, our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase an electronic sign in front of the school to replace the old signage. We hope to reach this goal by the end of the school year. We ask that each family join PTSO with a $12.00 contribution. (Checks should be made payable to Madras PTSO.)

We also need your volunteer time! If you are interested in assisting with any of the areas below, please print the form below linked beneath, and indicate in the appropriate section. Return the form to the MMS front office or to your child's homeroom teacher. You will be contacted as the events take place.

There are many opportunities to serve through PTSO:

  • Snack n Chat (Monthly)
  • School Store (rotational schedule
  • Teacher Luncheons
  • Media Center Weekly Help
  • Veterans Day Program
  • Black History Month Program Reception
  • Decoration for Receptions/Luncheons
  • Book Fairs (Fall and Spring)
  • Battle of the Books
  • School Pictures (Fall)
  • Scoliosis Screening (One time event)
  • Landscaping and Beautification
