Get ready to register for next year

Told that it's time for next year's kindergartners to sign up for school, these students in Vicki Clingen's class at Stevens Elementary School took a moment from their storytime to offer a welcoming wave to their future schoolmates.

Miller 7th Grade puts Washington on display

Student conferences took place on Monday and Tuesday this week in Grades 6-12. The 7th Grade students in Heidi Armenta's and Anne Eisele's Washington State History classes took the opportunity to display their historical research. In addition to parents strolling through the library during conferences, Miller students went on a "museum walk" to learn from each others' displays. Enjoy these examples of the students' work.
Referrals for the Highly Capable program open until March 24
Highly capable students are students who perform, or show potential for performing, at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments.
The process of identifying Highly Capable students begins with a teacher, parent, or community member submitting a referral. Anyone may nominate a student for assessment.
To recommend a student for testing, a Highly Capable Referral must be received by March 24, 2023. Please submit all referrals to Mindi Hammill at mhammill@asd5.org; Amber Melville at amelville@asd5.org, or deliver to McDermoth Elementary School, 409 North K St.
In order to participate in testing, students must have a referral indicating exceptional abilities and parental consent to test. Please ensure you have obtained a parent signature before submitting the referral form. Once a referral is received, families will be provided information regarding the assessment process.
Student test results and other assessment measures are evaluated by the Highly Capable multidisciplinary selection team. Notice of qualification for Highly Capable Services will be mailed to families and services will begin the following school year.
