PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, January 20th
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend!
We are enjoying the mild (....for the Midwest at this time of year anyway) temperatures but it's always recommended to keep sending your student in with coats, hats and gloves just in case we get a blast of arctic wind! Please have a conversation with your child about what you expect them to wear at recess. Often students will abandon their coats, hats and gloves when they are outside. Our recess supervisors have told students to put their coats on, but we often find the same students have removed their coats again after a short while. Please have clear expectations with your child as we are unable to ensure all students are wearing their coats throughout recess.
We have a lot of important, repeat information in this edition of the Patton Post so please do take the time to re-read and familiarize yourself with it!
Please remember: the email with the signup link for Parent Teacher Conferences will be going out on SUNDAY 29th JANUARY at 7:00pm.
New Faces at Patton this Winter (NEW INFO!)
You may hear your children mentioning some new names at home. Patton will be benefitting from several different individuals in the coming weeks and months. We have two retired educators who are interested in continuing to help students learn and grow. They will be volunteering a couple of times a week in various classrooms. (Mrs. Schwarz and Mrs. Blethen)
We are also welcoming a student teacher in PE (Mr. Skorin) and a student teacher in Music/Band (Ms. Crippen).
We will also have four District 214 students who are participating in the District 214 Education Academy volunteering about once a week with specific teachers.
We also continue to appreciate the many parents who volunteer in our LMC and the many substitutes who spend their days at Patton, many of whom are often willing to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed during any free moments in their days. Our students benefit from the many people at Patton who are eager to support their learning and growth.

Traffic Team. - Substitutes Needed (NEW INFO!)
We have a truly AMAZING PTA traffic team that ensure our Panthers arrive to and depart from school safely and on time! If you would like to help out, please consider signing up as a substitute by filling in this form. It helps our traffic team enormously to know that there are subs available should someone fall sick or be unavailable. You can indicate if you only have availability for AM or PM and will receive a group text when there is a need. You can volunteer if you are available, but no pressure if you are not available. Any help is appreciated and benefits so many of our students. Believe it or not, even if you can only help twice during the year, your contribution is welcome and needed. Thanks so much in advance!

Lunar New Year
Student Devices (2nd Posting)
We need your help! With the increase of students wearing smart watches and trackers, we have seen an uptick in students using these devices to communicate with others, including parents, during the school day. Please note that the Parent/Student Handbook (page 33) prohibits using these devices during the school day unless given permission by school personnel.
Students should refrain from reaching out to friends or family members using their devices during the school day. If you need to share information with your child, please call the office and we will get the message to your child. Please remind your child to share with teachers if they are not feeling well and need to see the nurse. Mrs. Pecora will assess the student’s health and reach out to parents accordingly. If there is anything that you think is important for us to know about your child, please communicate with your child’s teacher, Mrs. Pecora, and/or the front office so we can be aware and support your child as needed.
Please remind your child that their smart watches should not be used for communication during the school day. Please also share this information with any other family members who may be communicating with your child. Cell phones should also be off and in backpacks during the school day.
Additionally, some of our students who are enjoying their new devices are receiving notifications or have alarms going off during the school day. Students are not always familiar with how to navigate their new devices and turn these off. Please work with your child to ensure there are not notifications or alarms that will go off during the day which can be distracting to your child and their classmates.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
