Reading Junior High Longhorns
Message from your Principal
As we enter our 3rd week of the second six weeks, I am looking forward to more reasons to celebrate our kids. Last week, we recognized our students of the 1st 6 weeks who were nominated by their teachers. I had the pleasure of reading all of the wonderful things that were said about these special Longhorns. What an honor it was! Our kids are working hard and showing kindness every day. It is nice to let them know that their teachers see it and appreciate them! We will definitely continue this tradition every 6 weeks- some of the students were nominated more than once- Wow! We do have great students and teachers who are making this not so normal school year still feel amazing.
The new 3rd 6 weeks Learning Model Change form is open this week if you would like to change your child's learning model for the next grading period. If you are not changing anything, you do not need to complete it. If you are wanting to have your child return back to campus for the 3rd 6 weeks, you will need to go in Skyward and complete the form by this Friday- October 23rd. You will need to complete the form as well if your child is changing from on campus to virtual instruction.
We have a lot to look forward to this week with playoff games, spirit dress days and progress reports. Please reach out to your child's assistant principal or counselor if you need anything to continue for a successful 2nd 6 weeks.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

Secondary Learning Model Change - Deadline Oct. 23
The Learning Model Change Form for secondary students for the third six weeks is available in Skyward Family Access. The deadline for requesting a change in learning model for the third six weeks is Friday, Oct. 23. No changes in learning model will be accepted after Oct. 23, as the District must plan for master schedules, classroom space, virtual instruction and how to best meet the needs of our students.
Parents who would like to change their student’s learning model can use these instructions to access and submit the form in Skyward. If there is no change for your student, you do not need to submit the form.RJH Students of the First Six Weeks

Students will compete against teams from all other Junior Highs in LCISD in a series of remote Quizbowl sessions. We need students who feel confident answering history questions, and others who can fill roles such as team leader, and speaker for our RJH team. There will be required practices after school on a basis to be determined. We are looking for:

Nurse's Notes - A Message From Mrs. Turner
Due to COVID concerns, I am asking that you do not bring Tylenol, ibuprofen, decongestants, etc. to school for your child. These types of medications can mask the symptoms of illness. I have attached a "Can My Child Go To School" flow chart with guidelines for when you can send your student to school and when they can return to school if they have been ill. In alignment with LCISD Guidelines, any students with symptoms of illness will be sent home whether they have a fever or not. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this process, as we work together to ensure that our students and staff remain healthy.

Smart Tags Parent Portal
How does the SMART Tag work?
The SMART Tag uses an RFID chip inside the card. When a student gets on or off a bus, they present their card to the RFID reader installed on all Lamar CISD school buses. The RFID technology only requires that the student place the card near the reader, it does not have to be inserted into the reader. The SMART Tag tablet confirms if the student is on the right bus, and when the student attempts to get off at a stop, they scan their card ensuring it’s the right stop.
Information gathered by the driver tablets is shared in real-time using secured cloud technology. The barcode printed on the card is used only by applications on campus.
What features does SMART Tag have for parents?
Once the District has piloted the system with students, parents will have access to the SMART Tag Parent Portal to help keep them informed when their children ride the bus. Parents can also turn on SMART Alerts to receive a text message when the bus will arrive at their child’s stop in the morning and afternoon.
Additionally, parents can view the riding history of their child and can opt in to see a live map of their student’s bus when it’s on the way to pick them up and while they’re on the bus.
For more information on the SMART Tag system, click here.
What is the SMART tag system?
SMART tag is a system designed to improve the safety and security of students who utilize school bus transportation. It provides live monitoring of where and when students load onto and unload off of their school bus to keep transportation, school administrators and parents informed.
