Term 3, Issue 1
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
The third term has started well, with lots of activity around the school. The winter sports programme is in full swing and, again, I'd like to thank parents for their work in getting students to games and practices, sorting out gear, etc.
We have also had a lot of learning-based trips happening, as the staff continue to find ways to bring the curriculum alive for students.
Today we have our annual celebration of culture with cultural mufti day and Culture Night tonight. This is a wonderful evening of music, dance and fun. Thank you to those who were lucky enough to get a ticket. The students have been practising hard for weeks and I am sure you will enjoy what they have in store!
The next performance is the Dance Showcase on 15 & 16 August. This is followed by our Fashion Show on 24 August. Tickets for the Dance Showcase are on sale now. Don’t miss out on what will be another amazing showcase of student talent!
Staff Only Day
Next Tuesday we have another Ministry of Education mandated Staff Only Day to help us prepare for the upcoming changes to NCEA. Once again, if you are unable to arrange sufficient supervision for your child, please let your Dean know and we can arrange supervised study in the Library.
On 26 August we have the next round of parent meetings. This will be for all Year 10 students with their parents/guardians, and invited Year 11-13 students. Watch out for information that will be sent directly to you regarding the details.
This will be a normal school day until 12:00pm, when all students are released. Students are expected to use the afternoon to continue with their studies at home, when not at an interview.
Finally, the new building! We have been given a new completion date of 20 August, (but I don’t think they will make it!). We are, however, planning to go ahead with a dawn blessing of the building on Monday 23 August. The formal opening will be later in the year, when it is all finished and operational – more details to follow.
