A Message from the Principal
FWE families,
Our teachers are working hard to prepare report cards that will be sent out to families on February 8th. This information will reflect the learning done within the first semester. As we know, we are in a unique learning situation that has required us to focus on the most important skills within reading, writing and math. The teacher's ability to provide meaningful progress data on student learning is obviously directly related to the overall engagement of each student. Teachers will be using information from Zoom meetings, i-Ready testing, and reading, writing and math assignments to inform student grades. The more engaged your child has been, the more detailed information the teacher is able to provide.
As we move into the second half of the year it is a good time to reflect on what has been accomplished and set goals for the remainder of the year. It is our hope that you will partner with us in having conversations about how important it is for each student to own their own learning. Our Wildcats are capable of amazing learning and we want to continue to empower them to take ownership of their own individual progress. Let's continue to encourage our students to engage daily in their Zoom meetings, submit their assignments, participate in small groups, read and write independently, and set goals for making personal growth each day. Although none of us would choose to be in this challenging situation of pandemic learning, it is giving us opportunities to build self management and advocacy skills in our children that will benefit them their entire lives. As always, please reach out to our staff if there is anything we can do to support your family in this work.
In partnership,
Kristin Cortes
Principal

From our School Conselor, Mrs. Simeoni
We are on this journey together.
Everyone is experiencing loss and change in their daily lives- the loss of school, work and daily structure or routine; the loss of calm and sense of control the loss of social interaction and fulfillment; the loss of finances and freedoms; the loss of contact with those that become ill or are trying to prevent themselves from becoming ill; and the permanent loss of those who die from Covid-19. Finding new daily norms and making new schedules, practices and coping mechanisms are part of the path that is taken to reach acceptance and a new stronger way of living.
Try these:
BODY: What can you do to move your body each day even if you are working from home? Remember to drink water, eat nourishing food and get enough sleep.
BRAIN: Consider limiting the amount of news you watch or listen to each day. Support your nervous system by taking deep breaths, meditating even for a few minutes each day to clear your mind, or try yoga or stretching your arms and legs as your breathe deeply.
HEART: Make room for whatever emotions and thoughts come up for you and your children. Remind yourself “I am doing the best I can in this moment”. Ask for help when you need it.
i-Ready Diagnostic & Lessons
Many of our classes are finishing up the diagnostic test and returning to regular lessons. Please check in with your child to ensure they have completed the diagnostic (as requested by their teacher) and encourage them to return to spending at least 15-20 minutes on daily i-Ready lessons.

Inclement Weather Procedures Reminder

This means that if road conditions are deemed unsafe, we will be delaying or canceling school for that day. Canceled school days may need to be made up at the end of the school year. These days are included on our published calendars as "snow make up" days.
