Tim's Take!
Fun Fact #1 - The odds of being born on a leap day are 1 in 1500.
Fun Fact #2 - People born on February 29 are called "leaplings" or "leapers".
Fun Fact #3 - In Hong Kong the legal birthday of a leapling is March 1 in common years, while in New Zealand it is February 28. If you timed it right, flying from one country to the other you could enjoy the world’s longest birthday.
Fun Fact #4 - Astrologers believe people born on February 29 have unusual talents, such as the ability to burp the alphabet or paint like Picasso.
Enjoy that extra day we need to make it around the sun!

Mental Health First Aid Training - Paid Stipend Opportunities!
Pursuant to F.S. 1012.584, each school staff member must be trained in the 6-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid training. Once staff attends YMHFA training, the participant becomes trained to function as a Youth Mental Health First-Aider. We currently have 9 total individuals trained here at CCMS and CCHS. The District has provided us with some opportunities for folks to get trained on Saturdays and at night, and they would get paid a stipend for attending. If you are interested in an opportunity to be paid for your time to complete this training, Please check MyPGS, course # 2562, as additional trainings will be added. There will also be many opportunities available throughout the summer.
You will see other offerings that are on school days, but please note that the District cannot provide guest teachers, and there is currently a guest teacher shortage…so, we are not approving any staff member to attend training during a school day.
Currently these are the Saturday & Evening trainings that would offer a stipend:
3/7 – Saturday, 8:30-3:30 (16688)
4/18 – Saturday 8:30-3:30 (16687)
5/16 – Saturday, 8:30-3:30 (16691)
3/10 & 3/12 – evening, must attend both, 4:30-7:30 (16689)
4/13 & 4/15 – evening, must attend both, 4:30-7:30 (16689)

2020 Commissioner’s Academic Challenge
The Office of Leading and Learning is very excited to share that Pasco County Schools will participate in the 2020 Commissioner’s Academic Challenge (CAC), Florida’s premier high school academic tournament. The competition will take place on April 16-18, 2019, at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort, and marks our 35th year of celebrating academic excellence.
At the 34th annual CAC in 2019, the state champion and runner-up districts in each of three divisions were presented with Florida High School Athletic Association trophies and medallions. The first-place team members and coaches received Herff Jones championship rings. In addition, members of the first place team in each division received $500 scholarships and six participating students received “Team Florida” Scholarships in the amount of $1,000.
Pasco County Schools needs to form a team of four high school students, with two alternates to compete in this competition. These students will be selected based on scores from an online assessment.
The assessment will be titled Commissioner’s Academic Challenge and will be available via myProgress March 2nd – 6th and March 9th – 13thduring school hours. Please designated a day (or more if needed) during that week to have interested students participate in this assessment.
Students who are interested in participating will need to complete the attached machform by Friday, February 28th. School specific lists will be sent to AP Coordinators to begin scheduling a time for students to take the exam during the above window.
Students selected for the team will be contacted by their coach for after school practice sessions prior to the competition.
We know that this is a quick turn around and appreciate your support !
