Team 103 Super Heroes
Finding the Power Within!
This Week we're learning:
Literacy - Our reading groups have all started new books and we are focusing on non-fiction reading strategies. We are using text features to help us learn new information. We're combining Social Studies with our reading and learning more about Tecumseh and the Shawnee tribe.
Mathematics - We are making great progress with fractions and are working on comparing and ordering fractions using benchmarks and equivalent fractions. Our next chapter is all about decimals!
Social Studies- The European explorers have entered the Ohio Country and we are meeting the various historical Indian tribes of Ohio. We are focusing on the Iroquois that once lived here in Mentor.
You are your child's first and greatest teacher!
Home Hero Connection
Reading - Let's make our personal AR goal this quarter! Many of the students did not make their goal last quarter. Nightly reading practice is critical to our improvement as readers. We will be focusing on independent reading strategies this quarter as we work to improve our comprehension scores.
BREAKING NEWS FROM TEAM 103!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Valentine's Day Breakfast
Our homeroom parents have a lovely brunch planned for our celebration on Friday. Children are welcome to pass out Valentine's Day cards to their classmates, but please make sure that you have a card to each member of the class. We are a team and don't want anyone to feel hurt or left out. I am sending home a list of classmates with the students on Tuesday. We'll be creating decorated bags for our cards on Thursday.
Winter Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, February 16 from 4:00-7:00. Thank you for returning the conference request forms. I will be sending appointment times home this week for those that are scheduled for a conference.
Talking Art Museum - Tuesday, February 23 - Always a highlight of fourth grade! All parents are invited to come in that afternoon to see our masterpieces and learn about many famous artists. You won't want to miss it!
SHORTAGE - We are in desperate need of Kleenex these days. Each time I go to the store I am grabbing a couple of boxes, but I can't seem to keep up with the runny noses. We would very much appreciate any donation of Kleenex that you might be able to make! Thank you for sending some in with your child the next time you think of it while shopping. Thank you so much to the Jonke family!!!
