A word about water...
Drinking water helps students to stay alert, avoid headaches, and perform at their highest level. Hydration is also one of the simplest ways to avoid getting sick, and help a body cleanse itself after sickness.
The best way to encourage drinking water is to simply make it available.
When we return from February break, we would ask that you all send your child in every day with a reusable water bottle.
They are welcome, AND ENCOURAGED, to refill their bottles throughout the day and keep them close by in the classroom or on their desk.
A letter to all families from the Superintendent of Schools for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington
Thank you to all our fabulous parents who chaperoned during Winter Sports this season.
The 2018/2019 Winter Sports season is behind us now. What an exciting year we had! We hope you enjoy one final gallery of memories from our various locations.
In a special way, we would like to thank all of the wonderful parents who volunteered their time to help make this opportunity possible: We had volunteers working behind the scenes to drive students to each venue, to assist them in lacing up their boots, skates, or shoes each week, and to encourage them in whatever sport they chose.
Our Winter Sports program simply could not happen without the help and support of our volunteer parents so:
THANK YOU!!!!
Twelve and counting!
The newly formed SMS Great Books Group has quickly grown to twelve members. The GBG (GEE-BEE-GEE) is an adult reading group that offers adults in the Saint Michael school and parish communities an opportunity to enjoy and be enriched by the great literature of western civilization. There is no cost or obligation to join the group.
Fend off the mid-winter blues and come enjoy some good company and good conversation by joining the SMS Great Books Group. The GBG will meet next on Tuesday, February, 26, 2019 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at St. Michael School to continue a discussion of Walter van Tilburg Clark’s classic short story The Portable Phonograph. Missed the first reading? No worries! Clark’s work is a short story and can easily be read in less than a hour. Copies are available at no cost at the back of the parish church or in the business office of Saint Michael Catholic School. Come join us!
At the next meeting GBG readers will consider these questions:
Why is Dr. Jenkins the only character in the story with a proper name?
What would be an appropriate name for the fourth man in the cell?
The setting of the story is ambiguous, both as regards to place and time. Why is this?
What were the names of the books saved by Dr. Jenkins ?
From which book had the unnamed man recently finished reading?
To find the answers, pick up a copy of The Portable Phonograph and join us!
OUR GIRLS ON THE RUN TEAM NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Did you know: GOTR has Junior Coaching opportunities so if you are in 7th thru 12th grade and would like to get involved, please let us know!
Girls on the Run 2019 season starts the week of March 4th. Brochures were sent home to our young ladies in grades 3-5 today.
The program is designed to inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind!
- We are still seeking coaches to help with the program. We understand that committing to both days each week may be difficult – so even if you can join us a few times throughout the season that would be a great help!
- Any girl in grades 7-12 are also invited to join us as a Junior Coach!
If interested please contact Tammy Richards at tamikoch1@yahoo.com.
We need your help to make this program a success!
Boxtops for Education March 1st deadline approaching
Please help our school earn funds for our students.
It's easy and it's free!
We can use the funds earned from Boxtops for all sorts of needs: classroom supplies, paying for field trips, new PE or playground equipment, and even microphones for our drama program.
Here are three ways you can help:
- Simply inspect your packages before sending them off to the recycle bin. Look for the Boxtop logo and rip, clip, or snip off that little coupon... it's worth 10 cents! It's amazing how much money we can earn when everyone sends in those little coupons so please send them in before March 1st.
- Enter Saint Michael School into the contest mentioned above. You can help increase our chances of winning by visiting this link and entering your name and contact information. The sweepstakes rules allow for (1) entry per person per email address per day!
- Tell your friends and family to do the same by sharing the link or asking for clippings. Give them a little sandwich bag and encourage them to save it on their refrigerator or near their recycling bin. Every coupon counts!
Thank you for your support of this program!
