Each week, everyone much send to my email afreigruber@rc.edu their paper. I will provide a shell for you. You must use that shell. This is also to make sure no one gets behind.
Due on Saturday
Journal Article Review:
Journal Article Review:
To help you formulate an understanding of the research process, each student is required to review professional journal articles.
So, this means please make sure you have an idea of what you want to do your research on.
Please CALL me to get approval. 586-850-5493.
Once I approve your topic BEFORE this course starts, have a few PEER REVIEWED journal articles for the first day of class.
We will go over a lot and discuss your topic as well.
Class Presentations:
Class Presentations:
Presentation for your research paper presentation, it will be 10 minutes long.
Then your peers can ask questions for a few minutes. It is during these presentations that your fellow students are required to ask questions related to your ideas on the research process.
This will help you formulate your viewpoints on research issues as well as practice disseminating your research ideas to others.
Presentation for your Personal Reflective Paper will be everyone sharing with us what they wrote about and why. It will be a discussion on many various topics. i
* It is understood that the following applies. First, you will not understand everything, and you are not expected to. Focus on what you did understand when you give your presentation and feel free to pose questions either to the class or instructor.
Second, all students are responsible for making the class a collaborative learning environment where everyone is comfortable. Any comments that are demeaning of someone’s effort to learn or instruct will not be tolerated.
Class Participation:
Class Participation:
With the situation as it is, please do your best to participate as much as you can. There are points given for those who are always discussing, asking questions, etc. There will be questions I will have that you need to be prepared to talk to your classmates about when we meet online. If you CANNOT meet online when we are as a class because of work, etc. You MUST get in touch with me immediately so we can go over stuff from the class meeting.
The second way to earn participation points will involve asking a question during student presentations, to facilitate thought, insight, and a collaborative academic environment.

Personal Reflective Paper on Race and Inclusion
Reflecting on race and inclusion within social psychology research brings an array of topics, concepts and even the lack of training for all cultures in all aspects of life. The support I provide for my viewpoint that negatively impacts research in this field of inclusion, is indeed just that, there are very few programs that teach about race and inclusion. After the incident in June 2020 in the United States with the murder of an African American man by a poilice officer, many protests and flash in the pan programs have evolved, yet like many topics it will dissolve when the hype of the situation is diminished. I am stating that the curriculum must be embedded in all aspects of life and begin with the leaders!
In the world leadership and learning are the utmost traits all seek. Yet that leadership begins with individuals. All must first understand their own beliefs and structures beyond how they were raised, conditioned, brainwashed, influenced, unknowingly, or experiential views of their thoughts and actions. This is a truly diverse world that is full of obstacles and prejudices. This is certainly relevant to the government, federal, state and local, and the quest for harmony among diverse peoples. This is certainly relevant in the business world across the globe , CEOs, managers, down to the front line worker.
I believe there needs to be training for all! I proposed a program over two years ago and I would like to take this opportunity to share that concept in this paper as it is exactly what our class is discussing about race and inclusion. The research shows that there are a few programs put there but nothing really embedded in a school system. How are researchers addressing the problem? Perhaps it is only reactive research? Nonetheless even if the system creates programs because of an issue, the outcome isd still education and inclusion training. We are not just talking about race, it is about all inclusion and the understanding thereof.
Research must more than just research, it has to be turned into action! I believe education is the key and everyone is a leader, thus I call it Leadership Inclusion Training, (LIT) which will be in the modality of interactive workshops, all will delve into themselves first and have fierce conversations about all the barriers, lack of inclusion, proof of prejudice and inclinations of racism they may not even know exist within themselves. The goal is empowering worldviews, perspectives, and positionalities of all participants. The goal is not to change people's minds but rather to open their minds and awaken thoughts. This will hopefully change the Modus Operandi (Method of Operating) of the participant about diversity, equality, inclusion, racism and privilege. Wayne Dyer say, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at Even though some diversity trainings backfire, all in all it is a step towards growth and awareness of the person's understanding of themselves and the diversity around them.
The focus of training must be on diversity, equality, inclusion, racism and privilege. This is all based upon empirical resources and needs of not only adults but all. This will empower students, empower staff and empower communities. The focused on diversity, equality, inclusion, racism and privilege, shows effective ways to to empower students, staff and communities through interactive workshops, thus, creating an opportunity for growth and understanding so all may understand their own method of operating and be change agents for the present and future. If these workshops prove beneficial then perhaps this will be a more enlightened world. People will indeed create an opportunity within themselves for awareness, growth and understanding of true inclusion, as well as understand their own Modus Operandi Thus empowering worldviews, perspectives, and positionalities. The questions that begs itself for further research are... What inclusion trainings are available to schools at the present time? Who are the leading trainers in this field and how do I learn from their research? How do I get on the circuit of professional development and trainings in the field of diversity, equality, inclusion, racism and privilege? Consider the prejudice of making a comment about the food someone eats and the comments following the disgust of a negative comment. To take this to a case in point, if I put ketchup on my eggs and you say “That is disgusting” that comment is prejudice and putting your own thoughts of what I should put on my eggs. Even more important is the judging put upon me because I am not being like you because you don’t put ketchup on your eggs. Incidentally, I shall briefly note that this is a custom in Ireland where tomatoes are fried with the egg and set by side on the plate and eaten together.
Just as important to that example is the racist comments of a young person who grows up in a white supremacist family and all people of color are then less than because my grandpapy says so. Although many readers would say they are not prejudiced, once the essence of the workshop is to its culmination the attendee realizes that all humans have been conditioned to be prejudice in some way. There is a brilliant info graphic on this concept I would like to share below, it shows the trajectory of prejudice…
I look forward to a world where all are treated with the same respect, in particular students with learning deficits and those that are disruptive in a traditional manner. As Madela says “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Yet when education is a privilege for the few the playing field is warped and injust. Workshops that empower, change hearts and minds about diversity, equality, inclusion, racism and privilege will equalize the chances for a life liberty and the pursuit for happiness.
I am on a national board for alternative education called the National Alternative Education Association, when it seemed the whole world was creating a statement in the light of Black Lives Matter, we wrote about a bigger net that of course included that. The link to this is below for further insight if you wish to see. I have also left my link of the extensive research I have done on this concept and created research private page with links of a plethora resources dn concepts I have discovered.
In closing, research and race and inclusion has always been, yet without action it is only research and will sit on a shelf not be embedded in people's hearts and minds.
Thank you
Richard Kerry Thompson

Research without action...
My title: Cognitive Restructuring Has a Positive Residual Impact on Those Suffering from Mental Health Issues, has brought a plethora of amazing peer-review articles and insights that have brought me down many new paths and information. The reality that the mind can have a direct correlation to the quality of life and living is simply remarkable. The mind also has a way of tricking a person into believing things that are not actually factual, yet the person believes they are. These are called cognitive distortions. All humans have them and if someone says they don’t perhaps they are in denial and not aware.
I have also learned that even though the science of cognitive restructuring and cognitive distortions began in the 1960s, I beg to differ as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle all understood that the mind is the greatest journey and as Socrates said… “an unexamined life is not worth living.
In closing the organization of the cognitive distortions and labeling them along with ways to conquer the irrational belief is the real benefit because research without action, in my humble opinion is only half the journey and a waste of time.
Thank you
Richard
