Bradley Broadcast May 2019
"One and Only You"
Counselor's Corner
Hello Amazing Parents!
May is here! What an adventure it has been with all of our Bradley Bears! I'm beyond grateful to experience this first year with them as their school counselor. This month we celebrate "TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK" and "SCREEN FREE WEEK." We want to thank all of our teachers here at Bradley for their hard work and helping our Bears develop their character.
During Screen Free Week, April 29-May 5, 2019, children, families, entire schools, and communities will rediscover the joys of life beyond the screen. Plan to unplug from digital entertainment and spend all that free time playing, reading, daydreaming, creating, exploring, and connecting with family and friends! For example activities, please visit: http://www.screenfree.org/
Check out the following link about limiting screen time for parents from Apple!
Though this year has had it's share of challenges, all of our Bradley families have persevered together! Bradley Strong! Our Bradley Bears have grown tremendously in their character and have developed resiliency in so many different ways. We want to teach our Bradley Bears that we hold the power to be creative in both emotional and responsive ways. Our final trait for the month is "FAIRNESS." We also want to make sure that all of our Bradley Bears understand that all of our character traits, "RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, EMPATHY, KINDNESS, HONESTY, AND SELF-AWARENESS" all work together to help them continue to be the best Bradley Bear they can be and see situations through the lens of FAIRNESS.
During this month, our staff and student leaders are truly dedicated in helping your child review all of our learned character traits with many frequent reminders, games, and activities.

Nurse's Notes
All medication is to be picked up in the clinic by a parent or a designated adult at the end of the school year. Some of our students have medication at school with doses remaining. We will not be sending medication home with students at the end of the year. It will be necessary for you to make arrangements for medication pick-up. Emergency medications such as epinephrine and inhalers should not be picked up until the last day of school. Any medication not picked up by 3:00 pm on May 31st, will be discarded. No medication can be kept at school over the summer months.
If your child has a medical condition such as food or other allergies, asthma, seizures, or diabetes and the child has a doctor appointment planned for the summer, please feel free to request or pick up an action plan in advance from the nurse. They are also available to print from my website:

News from your PTO
We made it to the finish line! Our PTO's mission this year was to bring our families and communities together to support our school in cultivating a rich academic and social environment for our students. Through consistent efforts to increase parental involvement, substantial fundraising, strong community partnerships, and socially engaging activities - the mission was accomplished! Together, we made this year a success with the support of our parents, PTO volunteers, committee chairs, teachers, administration, staff, and board members! A BIG pat on the back to all for working tirelessly to support the vision. In closing, I would personally like to thank the Bradley family for welcoming me into your lives and entrusting me to lead as your PTO president. I hope that the initiatives and activities created lasting memories, inspired school pride and made our students, families and Bradley staff feel special. Thank you!

Dear Parents,
I first want to start off by thanking you for all your work to make this year possible. As my first year in Conroe and my first year at Bradley, I can say it was an amazing year! Each student has shown so much love for my class and I hope each and every one of them takes something with them as we end the year. I have gained a lot of experience and look forward to implementing new ideas for the new school year 2019-2020. As for our 4th graders, I will forever hold their memory as they played a big part of learning in my 1st year. Please continue to encourage your student to memorize their ID #'s. That number will stay with them all through Conroe ISD. It is important and beneficial that they have it memorized. I look forward to see each grade level move up and incoming Kinder. I have great plans to finish off the year and continue to the next school year. Being on the internet can be fun and educational when they are shown how. Here are a few apps you can download or websites they can use at home. For example, PBS Kids videos instead of youtube, Teach Your Monster to Read app to encourage reading and Prodigy for math, and Google's Interland for digital citizenship.
Again, thank you for such a great year!

Art
We have had such a wonderful year in Art! This month students are reviewing, thinking about their year and portfolios are going home! I hope you enjoy their artwork as much as we enjoyed making it! The month of May all grade levels will explore new artists and techniques both inside and outside the Art room! We will learn how to show bodies in motion with sidewalk chalk and inspiration from Keith Haring. We'll be taking another Art adventure outside with color theory and bubbles! Dale Chihuly and his glass creations will inspire us to create colorful glass like sculptures! 4th grade will end the year with sculpture, using clay to create a unique creature. Thank you all for a wonderful year at Bradley! We look forward to all the amazing and artistic things we will do in the years to come! Have a safe and happy summer!
Music
Bradley Music Notes
It's hard to believe that May is here! And yet we still have so much learning to do! 😊
Kindergarten students and are are excited to invite you to our Spring Music Program on Thursday, May 23 at 6 pm. Our program is based on the book, I Am Human: A Book of Empathy, by Susan Verde. The students are working so hard, and we hope to see you at our performance!
First, second and third grade students will begin to work in stations to review concepts they have learned throughout the year. Students will use music iPad apps as well as lots of manipulatives to explore, extend, critique and create musical ideas.
Fourth grade students have an important decision to make. They get to choose their Fine Arts course for their fifth grade year! For those interested in joining the band or orchestra at Clark, please read the attached flyers for information about instrument selection dates. Fourth grade students will also continue recorder lessons at Bradley through the end of May.

Our Bradley Bears are excited with Spring and also for the month of May!
This month is the culprit of achieving one more step in their education ladder. From Kinder to 4th grade our bears have grown and they keep amazing us how much they have learned and how much our teaching have affected their lives. Thinking about the upcoming Summer we are reviewing lots of games that they can play at home, the backyard, neighborhood park, just anywhere.
We want to remind you that today the average child spends numerous hours in front of TVs and computers; not developing their perceptual motor skills. Many children have low muscle tone and poor concentration. This in turn, may impact social and emotional skills and intellectual skills may even be affected.
So, get outside and play with your child! Here is a list of some of the favorite games we have learned this year:
- Clean the backyard
- Waspital
- Zoo Tag
- Squirrel Tag
- Super Heroes Tag
- Builders and Bulldozers
Also don't forget to stay hydrated this Summer, apply sunscreen when going outside, and follow the Water Safety Rules to keep your children safe all the times. Check out the Red Cross website for more information about Summer Safety.
Stay Healthy and enjoy May!

Summer is approaching fast! Do you need ideas for continuing your child’s learning throughout the summer months? A great place to start is at a local library! They usually have fun reading programs with incentives to keep your child growing as a reader such as the Montgomery County Library Summer Reading Challenge. Day trips to museums, farms, hiking trails, and parks can provide many learning opportunities during the summer. Trips to the store, the donut shop, or even a snow cone stand are perfect for letting your child practice math skills such as addition, subtraction, and counting coins. For a successful start to 2nd grade math, keep practicing addition and subtraction facts to 20 all summer long.
What Are We Learning?

All-STAARs
The time has finally arrived!
We have reached STAAR month where our Bradley Bears will shine!
Math: Our math STAAR test will be on Monday, May 13th. In class we will continue reviewing the standards we have been working on all year. After STAAR, we will continue to target any areas students continue to struggle with, as well as work on an end of the year math project.
Reading: Our reading STAAR test will be on Tuesday, May 14th. In class we will continue our unit reviewing fiction, non-fiction (literary and expository), and poetry.
Science: We are working on plant and animal life cycles. Students have specifically been learning about tomato plants, the frog, and the ladybug. We will use hands-on learning and videos to help students view how plants and animals undergo change through their life cycles.
Social Studies: We are continuing our study of inventors, scientists, and entrepreneurs. This has been on ongoing unit where students have learned about a variety of people and how their lives affected the community and world around them. Some of the people we are learning about include Milton Hershey, Sam Walton, Henry Ford, Wallace Amos, Bill Gates, Jonas Salk, and Louis Pasteur. This unit will continue after STAAR with a biography project.
Fourth grade
April was very busy as we ended the month with the Future Grizzly Challenge and our visit to Clark Intermediate. Our fourth-graders did a great job at the Challenge. They were great competitors and even better sports! The Clark Cubs showed us what it will be like to be in choir, orchestra, band or art next year. Please remember your fourth-grader should be making their fine arts selection now so they can begin preparing schedules for next year.
