B Present Studio

Wednesday we enjoy a fabulous morning at B Present Studio. During our 45 minute Confident Kids class we focused on getting active, building a positive mindset, focused on good healthy habits and having fun! Be sure to ask your child what his/her favorite part of the study trip was!

Read Across America Day!

Today we celebrated the joy of reading on Read Across America Day! We celebrated by wearing mix-and-matched clothes or dressing as our favorite book character! We also participated in a school-wide "Drop Everything and Read" time! We spent the day reading favorite books from home and sharing our favorite stories with friends!

Candy Bar Bingo!

TONIGHT is Candy Bar BINGO!! It will be held here at TCE from 6:00-7:30pm.Come enjoy a fun night out, where EVERYONE wins candy! There will be pizza sales in the café and raffle tickets sold for “teacher experiences”. We look forward to seeing you tonight!

TCE Riley Mini-Dance Marathon

Last week a permission form was sent home regarding the TCE Riley Mini-Dance Marathon! It will be held on March 15th in the gym here at TCE from 3:50-5:00pm! This Mini-Dance Marathon is a chance for TCE students to help fund pediatric cancer research and child life specialists at Riley Hospital. Permission slips and possible donations must be returned by March 8th. They are asking for a $5 donation, but students may collect more money if they would like! Further details are included in the permission slip that was sent home!

Yearbooks are on Sale!

Yearbooks are on sale! The cost of the yearbook is $16 per book. To order a yearbook this year, you will need to order online at . We will not be accepting cash or checks this year. All orders are due by March 22nd. To place an order online, enter in the code 36760V. The yearbooks will be shipped to TCE and passed out to the students near the end of May. Happy ordering!

Background Checks & Anti-Bullying Video

All who desire to volunteer, chaperone fieldtrips, or eat lunch in the cafeteria must have an approved background check on file and complete the Anti-bullying video. Background checks are good for 3 years. If you have questions about your background check, please contact the TCE office @ (317) 594-4310.

Inventor's Box

During exploring time, our students would like to create things with recycled items! Our classroom is in need of any items that we can use to create and invent things with!! We love turning trash into new and exciting inventions and creations!

Some items that we need and brainstormed together are:

plastic bottles

soda cans


boxes (any size cereal, pop tart, cracker, mac and cheese etc..)

milk jugs


toilet/paper towel rolls



magazines (child appropriate)

bags from kroger, marsh, etc..


rubber bands

egg cartons

plastic containers

If there is anything else you would like to send in, we would love to have it!!

We are Learning


This week, we continued to discuss figurative language. We practiced determining the difference between the various types we have focused on so far. We also worked on finding them in our reading and adding them to our writing. We have also been working on sharing book recommendations with our friends.


This week we have been hard at work working on our young authors books. The class is doing such a fabulous job on them. I love that each child is choosing a a writing genre that they are interested in. Each child is pushing his/her writing thinking and applying skills we have learned this year to their books. I'm excited to continue conferring with students next week!

Word Study

A week from today Friday, March 8th our class will be tested over their word lists.

Repeated Sort: Students will sort their words. Then check their words using the answer key. Then sort their words again!

Draw and Label: Students choose 10 of their words. Then they will draw a picture of each world and label it.

Blind Sort: Using given guide words, or headers, students spell or write in words in the correct category as a partner calls each word aloud without showing it.

Writing Sort: Students write their words under the correct category.

Speed Sort: Students sort words quickly under the correct categories (use a timer to see how fast they can do it!) Students love to beat records and to set goals for themselves.

Word Hunt: Students hunt through their own reading and writing for words that are additional examples of the sound, pattern, or meaning unit they study!

Buddy Sort: Using the given headers, students sort their words with a partner, then discuss. They will then check their work with their answer key.


In math this week we learned how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. We learned that when denominators are the same, all we have to do is add or subtract the numerator and then the denominator stays the same. We also began looking at and comparing fractions with different denominators. This week we continued practicing area and perimeter. We also began learning about plotting numbers on a coordinate plane. We will continue digging in deeper with these skills next week!
