A Message from Administration
Greetings DLES Families,
It was another wonderful week at Ducketts Lane. We are so excited to be back in the swing of things here at Ducketts Lane and are so happy to be observing our students working together and with our fantastic teachers to learn new material and practice skills previously taught so that together we can accomplish our academic goals for our students.
We would like to remind all adults who are coming to pick up children at dismissal to not stand by the front doors or front sidewalk. This causes congestion making it difficult for students to go where they need for dismissal and it is also a safety risk as we open our doors. We ask that you stand over on the corner towards Ducketts Lane or INSIDE the front playground and students can meet you at your determined meeting location.
As we all know, this upcoming weekend is a 3-day weekend. However, this is not just a weekend with an extra day off. On Monday, January 15th, schools and offices will be closed in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, an influential leader who helped change the world in which we live in and enjoy freedoms in today.
Dr. Martin Luther King was a shining example of the change that can come about through kindness, perseverance, and the power of community. He believed in using nonviolence as a means to lead and inspire others to be more accepting, kind, and appreciative of the diversity within the world.
Many of you may be taking part in special events, activities and or conversations about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during this time. In addition to our day off school, in remembrance of Dr. King, we also want to take time to honor him as a school community. We have selected Tuesday, January 16th as our day of commemoration. All students and staff are encouraged to wear blue on this day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will do this as a way to symbolize Dr. King’s passion for peace and kindness in the world.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, and hope that many of you have signed up to join us on Thursday evening for a wonderful reading night event.
Proudly Serving You,
Mrs. Caroland, Mrs. Van Osdel, and Mrs. Yerashunas
