Start of the school year
Lin Howe Families,
I would like to THANK YOU for the start of an unprecedented school year!
I would like to communicate the very unique way in which we are starting this school year. Teachers across the district started with a 7 day "soft" opening to connect with students, build Zoom meeting stamina, and get comfortable with the technology while delivering instruction.
As a classroom teacher for 23 years, each first day of school brought butterflies, anxiety, nerves, and excitement. I'm so impressed at how all of our teachers have taken on this gargantuan challenge of beginning a school year remotely, knowing that they are teaching not only in front of a new group of students, but in front of their families as well. And, in some cases, not feeling completely comfortable with the technology or having a tech issue which would only increase a teachers stress level.
On Friday, I had an opportunity to drop into a few classes and I was so impressed with the positive attitudes of all the students. Many of them expressed their desire to be back at school but were looking forward to how they were going to interact with their teachers and their classmates through distance learning. The highlight of dropping into the classes was being able to join the students in singing “Happy Birthday” to their teacher.
I fully appreciate the desire to have everything go off perfectly, but I'm asking for some patience and understanding as we work together to create the best experience for our students.
This week our staff will receive additional training and will be given more time to prepare and learn as we continue to move forward on this journey.
