Mr. Hargrave will be discussing - in detail - your student's academic schedule and what the minutes in their seats means for your student's ongoing success in the District. We will also be discussing QUARANTINE/ISOLATION procedures and how your student will be impacted by our response to positive cases of COVID-19 in schools (see Quarantine Link within this newsletter).

You will have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions in preparation for the upcoming school year!

EMS Doors Open at 8:30am (1st Period: Begins at 8:40am)

Students will be entering our school in three district doors based on your student's grade level. See the image above.

Why? There are a few reasons: Because we want to make a connection with each student as they enter our building, because we want to capture the number of students attending on any given day, because we want to determine bus riders for the afternoon, and because we want to decrease congestion at one specific door to increase physical distancing.

What? The three doors are located in the front of EMS. At each entry there will be staff positioned and ready to greet your student at 8:30 and to help guide your student to their first period class.

How? When students arrive, students must wear their face covering. We will provide a face covering if your student does not bring their own. Upon entry, students will go to their locker to prepare for first period or go to the cafeteria for a quick breakfast. Classes begin at 8:40.

Chromebooks: Handing Out on 9/9 (Thursday)

Your student will be issued her/his Chromebook on Thursday, September 9th during their Life class. Expect your student to bring home their Chromebook and Chromebook Charger on that day.

The charger is intended to stay at home. Please charge the Chromebook each night.

The Chromebook is to travel with your student to and from school, daily. It is expected and necessary for your student to bring their Chromebook home each day in the case of an unexpected requirement to quarantine.

We will work with you and your student throughout the year to improve their technological literacy and capacity of PowerSchool, Canvas, and Google Suite apps.

Bell Schedule for 21-22 School Year

Doors open at 8:30am. Students are to report to the cafeteria for a quick breakfast or their 1st Period classroom.

Fostering Relationships Through Care and Connection

At EMS we believe strong student-to-staff and student-to-student relationships are a prerequisite to learning. We will be focusing on relationships during the first ten days of learning. Here are a few examples of what relationship-building looks like and sounds like at EMS:

  • Learning each other's names and how to pronounce the names
  • Establishing learning norms and how a class conducts the business of learning each day
  • Playing games and building a spirit of curiosity
  • Talking about their backgrounds, Summers, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Learning daily learning routines (where to turn in work, how to ask a question, how to submit a task)

It is important we take time to tend to our students mental health and wellness. We will be going slow at the onset of the year in order to build a strong infrastructure for the rigorous learning to come throughout the academic year.

Lunchtime, Eating at EMS in a Pandemic

Will Your Student Have to Quarantine? Yes, potentially.

Click here to view the robo-message you will receive because your student is exposed to a positive case of COVI-19 at school.

EMS has a responsibility to limit the transmission of COVID19 in school. To limit the transmission (not eliminate), these are the core safety measures:

--One-way hallways

--Mandatory mask-wearing

--3' physical distancing where and when appropriate

--Improved ionized air filtration systems

--Multiple lunchroom spaces, including outdoor eating

--Hand-sanitizing stations in each classroom and wipe-out-of-desk procedures

--Contact-tracking and seating arrangements

--Individual Chromebooks

--Quarantine and Isolation procedures

Please do not send your student to school if you or your student are unwell. If your student becomes sick we will notify you. And, if your student tests positive for COVID19, we need your help to ensure we can quarantine all close contacts your student has had while at school. Quarantine and Isolation procedures are a responsible and effective way to discontinue additional outbreaks at school. Be honest and communicate with us when you have questions.
