How to Handle English 9.
Mrs. Allen
Welcome to English
Hi my name is Ty Smith. In English 9 you will be given a lot of work. That's why you always have to stay on top of your work. If you focus in and out of class you will be able to succeed. This class should help you a lot too.
Monster
This book shows real life situations about kids in middle school. It's almost just like us. Like The Hunger Games, you will be given a Kindle to read it on. This is a short story.
Group literature circles.
Reading
This is the best part of the year. You get to read with all of your friends in the class. The assignments that go along with it are not very challenging either. The books are very good too.
Independent reading/ Book talks
You must read outside of class to succeed in this. Mrs. Allen makes the book talks fun and interesting. You will choose a book based on the type of book for that nine weeks. I really did well because I read at home to keep pace. This should be good for your grade.
What I liked best
I really enjoyed reading Monster. The book is very thought provoking and a good read. It's better that we get to read it on a Kindle. The book was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
Struggles of the year
I really struggled with The Hunger Games. I found the book very boring and couldn't get attached to it. There was a lot of reading that I did not do. That came from not liking the book. I also really struggles with the quizzes that came with it.
The keys to success
The keys to getting good grades in English 9 are fairly easy. You must be able to keep up on all of your book's throughout the year. Doing your homework is key to success also. The homework helps you learn the material more. Studying for tests is a good idea too. These tips should make your English class a lot less stressful.
