Elmwood News

10.15.21

Earlier this week, you received an email from Naperville 203 regarding the approval of the district’s e-Learning plan. E-Learning will provide our students with a continuation of learning on days when we are unable to open its school buildings. Students will receive at least five hours of asynchronous instruction or school work through their Canvas accounts.

Support From Teachers

Staff members are available from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to respond to students' needs. Teachers will not provide live streaming/concurrent instruction or synchronous learning. Instead, students will be given assignments aligned to current learning progression and goals.

  • Communication methods may include: Email, Canvas and/or Zoom, among others

  • Teachers will check on the completion of necessary e-Learning assignments

  • Teachers will provide students with extended time, as needed

Attendance

The State of Illinois recognizes e-Learning days as regular attendance days, thus they will not need to be made up. Naperville 203 will use e-Learning days in lieu of emergency days, which were previously used for emergency school closings.

  • Parents should follow the same absent attendance process as regular school day.

    • Call the school if your student is sick and unable to participate in the e-Learning day

    • Students will be considered present unless excused by parent/guardian

    • All absences should be called in by 9 a.m.

Tech Support

In preparation for the possibility of an E-Learning day, students should bring their computers and other technology tools home each day. For all tech support please click HERE.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support.

Spirit Week was a HUGE Hit!

Elmwood kicked off spirit week in an awesome way with an assembly led by Matt Wilhelm, Pro BMX biker. He shared a great message of “Never Give Up” and “Be Kind.”

Throughout the week, our students went above and beyond showing their Elmwood school spirit. It was so great to see so many students demonstrating our message of SOAR & "You Belong" at Elmwood!

Thank you Elmwood families for all the fundraising you have done to help Home and School make these fun events happen for our kids!

Fall Costume Parade at Elmwood

We are very excited to announce that the Fall Costume Parade will return this school year! The parade will look a little different this year in an effort to ensure student safety. Please click here for additional information about the event.

This is a great volunteer project for girl and boy scout troops. Email us at elmwoodsfcp@gmail.com if you are interested in signing up to volunteer OCTOBER 30th from 9-11am. Also if you know an elderly neighbor, someone with a new baby, illness or disabled that might need some extra fall clean-up help, please email us or call the Elmwood office.

Winter Wear Drive

Time to clean out closets and get ready for colder weather! Please consider donating your gently used winter wear: hats, gloves, coats, snowpants and boots. Please use the sign- up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080D45A9A922A7F85-winter2 to register the items you are donating or email us at elmwoodsfcp@gmail.com.

Parent SHIELD Portal

As we prepare for our next session of SHIELD testing (10.15), please review this document for Parent SHIELD Portal. This document will help you access your child's SHIELD results the day after testing. Please know, if your child tests positive from the SHIELD testing, you will receive a call from District 203 staff notifying you of the results and next steps to support your child. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out directly to Elmwood's front office.

Please know-- if your child tests positive through the SHIELD process, you will be contacted by a District 203 staff member over the weekend. That staff member will explain next steps to support your child and family.
