SC GEAR UP
Weekly Memo - 3/14 to 3/20
Good Morning
I hope everyone's weekend was a great one! We are approaching Spring Break for the schools. Semester is flying by.
Be sure to send us your weekly schedules. They have proven to be very helpful for Tanya to see how you move throughout the regions and to allow her to get around to see you.
Invoices for Q3,4 and 1 are in. Thank you for your work on this. No rest for the weary. I want you to start pressing the schools on getting Q2 invoices prepared.
Decision Day
Keep up the good work with your Decision Day plans. I am working through the final edits for the Decision Day page on SCCANGO. Once live, I want you to have each of your schools go to the site and register their events. When reviewing your dates for Decision Day, I noticed quite a few events in April. I went ahead and sent out some materials for your schools to help with the events ahead of the site going live. However, once the site goes live the same materials will be available.
I wanted to personally thank Steve and Loris high for getting me his videos ahead of schedule. He also had Loris do another video for me with a very quick turnaround. When the page goes live, I will probably have the Loris video up first. We will rotate the videos and list them all.
I will be asking some of you to use your events as the "roll out" event for Decision Day. Again, I've had to speed up my timeline since so many events are happening in April, but I may do a press event in April and one in May as well.
APR
Working on the APR this week again. It will be a priority until it is submitted. I had an interesting dilemma come up. So I want to ask a question of you all. Would your Guidance Offices know right now the number of students from the graduating class of 2014 who enrolled in post secondary institutions this Summer/Fall. Could they provide you with that information, possibly from knowing where they sent the final high school transcripts?
ACT
As we approach the ACT Testing Window in April we need to work on two items as we prepare for the test:
1) I want you to be sure that all the schools understand we need our students to take the test. Opting out shouldn't be an option
2) I will be distributing a letter this week for you to hand-deliver to your Supers. The letter states that we wish for our students to take the test and, more importantly, that we would like access to the data. The language on taking the test isn't terribly strong, so we need you to be sure to deliver the message in person that we need them to require our students to take the test.
SC GEAR UP Day at Clemson
Objectives for 2015-16
The SCGU Grant objectives for 11th grade will be that 1) At least 25% of our cohort will have passed at least 2 math courses above Algebra by the end of 11th grade; 2) 80% of our students will pass U.S. History by the end of 11th grade.
Remember, the success of the SC GEAR UP Grant will be judged on three things:
1) Did your GU cohort graduate high school at a higher rate than the non GU cohorts?
2) Did your GU cohort enroll at a post-secondary institution at a higher rate than the non GU cohorts?
3) How prepared to succeed were our GU cohort when they arrived at college?
