Reminder: 2018-2019 PTA Memberships
Fill out the PTA membership form to join PTA. The cost this year is $7.00. You can place the envelope and cash/check in the PTA lockbox in the office. One of our School Improvement Plan goals is to have 100% staff PTA Membership.
All Star Commitment
Integrity - Teamwork
Please fill in the dismissal coverage for your grade level on the linked document here - Dismissal Duty.
Schedule: Please adhere to the FINAL schedule that was placed in your mailbox on Friday. If you have a change on a certain day, let Jonalee know.
Documentation: Any time a student has to leave your room it must be entered into Educlimber!
Time: Please be respectful of time. Drop off and pick up students at the scheduled time according to your phones.
Positivity: Remember to remain positive. If you hear negativity centered around a process, situation, adult or student action, remember how important it is to "WALK the TALK" . We need to showcase who we are as a Briarcliff ALL Star Team. Days will be hard, things will get frustrating and not always go our way, but remain optimistic, come together and collaborate, be a problem solver not a complainer! :)
Just a reminder, EduClimber is our new behavior management system that is replacing EdHandbook. If you have not logged into EduClimber, please follow the steps listed below to sign in. If you were not able to login in to EduClimber at our PD day, please try again. If it still does not allow you access, please stop by the office so we can help get you set up.
- Go to the website https://www.educlimber.com/
- District ID: 1239
- Click “Forgot Password” and follow directions for setting up your password
- Username: first part of your email address (ex: jonalee.searcey)
- Password will be whatever you set.
*When you login, your username is just your first name.last name. A few staff members realized they couldn't login because they were using their full email address as the username.

Friday Folders
- All paper communication home (from office, agencies, district, classroom, PTA, etc) saved and sent on Friday only. If you have a homework folder, perfect you don’t have to change that, but the Friday folders are for ALL other communication.
- This is a building process/system I need us all to support in order to streamline our communication process. I will communicate with parents to expect this type of communication through these folders. See Saw is about ready, so that is another way for you to communicate throughout the week if you chose too!
- PTA has to have their copies (copied and counted) to teachers mailboxes by Thursday. Put a student leader in charge of this if you need help stuffing them. K-1 reach out to an older grade to see if there are student leaders to help each of you stuff these folders. Just a few ideas!
BUS BUCKS - Allow these to be traded in for BEAR Bucks
Reminder: Accessing Science Online Resource - from Tricia Scott
NKCS has a new science resource, and the technology portion is set up (based on the information that lives in PowerSchool).
Teachers and students will both access this resource through staff or students links-Pearson Realize. Teachers login with employeeID@nkcschools.org and their current Mac password. The first time a teacher logs-in content needs to be added. Until the term begins teachers need to select “future courses” to see the 18-19 courses. Then the appropriate course can be selected and the appropriate content can be added.
Students login with studentID@nkcschools.org and their birthday mmddyyyy.
We do plan to have the app Pearson Realize Reader scoped to students so they can install it on their iPads. Teachers are welcome to go ahead and install their iPad from the app store.
When using the app there are some tips to keep in mind.
- Open the app
- Look toward the bottom of the login window and tap Pearson EasyBridge Plus & Auto
- Select North Kansas City Schools
- Teachers login with employeeID@nkcschools.org and current password
- Students login with studentID@nkcchools.org and current password
***We are still working with Pearson a bit on the app, so if it doesn’t function as you would expect please know we are working on it.
UPDATE From Chad Sutton and Kristin Havens
- Dress code questions addressed below:
- May teachers wear pajamas on PJ day? No, we will not allow pajamas to be worn to work.
- May I still pass out jeans coupons? Yes, and you may consider providing a sticker for the staff member to wear notating the jeans celebration.
- May teachers participate in other spirit days? Yes, as long as they are refraining from wearing jeans Monday-Thursday.
- 3rd Grade cursive writing resources will arrive at your building on Monday, August 27th. Remember, cursive should be reviewed for no more than 10 minutes per day for 2-3 weeks. After that time, students should choose to print or write in cursive, whichever is most efficient for them.
- K-6 Science curriculum has been updated in Canvas. Connections to our new resource as well as Makerspace opportunities have been included in this new revision. Please take time to communicate with staff that these updates are available. Remember that ALL students should have a minimum of ONE Makerspace experience that is tied to Science curriculum this year.
Electronic Report Card Update:
- Electronic report cards will be available K-6 this year.
- Rather than sending home paper copies, parents will be able to see the electronic report card in PowerSchool for a window of time (2 weeks).
- Elementary viewing – October 25-November 8
- 6th Grade viewing – October 23 – November 6
- Once the viewing window closes, parents will no longer have access to see the report card until the 2nd quarter window.
- Paper copies may be printed at the building level for families that do not have access to an electronic device. Administrative assistants will be able to flag students in PowerSchool that need a paper copy and then batch print for all the flagged students. The content of the printed copies will be the same as what we are used to seeing, however they will be in an HTML version. This means that the page breaks will not be “clean” as they have been in the past. Thus, only print when absolutely necessary. Directions for how to flag students in PowerSchool will be forthcoming.
