LVES Weekly is Going Green!

In an effort to save resources, the LVES Weekly will only be available online this year. The link to the LVES Weekly will be sent every Friday by email from Mrs. Jackson. It will also be posted on the LVES Facebook page and LVES website.

Transportation Changes

If you need to change your child's transportation, please call or email Mrs. Harris in the front office before 12:00 pm. Transportation changes will not be accepted after that deadline, so Mrs. Harris has time to process the changes and get notices to students before dismissal.

Parent Portal IDs

Parent Portal IDs went home in today's Friday folders. This ID gives you the opportunity to go into your child's account to view attendance, class information, and grades (2nd and 3rd grade only). Please make sure your child's TxEIS account is set up, so you can view the different function above using your child's Parent Portal ID.

If you have any questions, please contact our registrar, Veronica Fidencio, at veronica_fidencio@lagovista.txed.net.

Parent Information Night- August 29th

Mark your calendars for Parent Information Night on August 29th. You will get the opportunity to hear about what goes on in the classroom during the day. Teachers will review class/grade level expectations, grading guidelines, daily schedule, and much more. Teachers will have two, 30-minute sessions (6:30-7:00, 7:00-7:30) for families that have children in multiple grade levels.

Stop by the cafeteria at 5:45 for a hot dog and Meet-N-Greet with PTO board members! The first official PTO meeting of the year will be September 5th at 5:00 pm in the Community Room.

We hope to see you on August 29th!

Football Players, Cheerleaders, Pep Rallies...Oh My!

School has started, so that means football season is here! One of our favorite traditions at LVES is having Varsity football players and cheerleaders visit us on home game Fridays, and this year the tradition continues. Football players and cheerleaders visit classrooms and read stories, play games and answer questions from their littlest fans. In addition to having them on campus for home games, our students travel to LVHS to attend home pep rallies too! Here is the schedule of when grade levels will attend pep rallies:

  • September 13th - 3rd Grade
  • September 28th - 2nd grade
  • October 12th - 1st grade
  • November 2nd - Kindergarten

We can't wait to have football players and cheerleaders on campus Friday, August 31st!

We get into the Viking Spirit by having a Spirit contest every Friday during football season. The class in each grade level that wears the most Viking gear, or colors, wins the contest. Go Vikings!

Running of The Vikings

All PK-5th grade (LVES and LVIS) students are invited to participate in the Running of The Vikings before all home games. Students will need to line up on the north end of the field (by the Viking tunnel) at 6:50 pm to be ready to run when the players leave the field (approx. 7:00 pm). The first Running of The Vikings will be Friday, August 31st.

Parents - don't forget to bring your camera so you can capture this exciting tradition!

Want to Volunteer?

We love volunteers at LVES! If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity at LVES (field trips, Room Parent, Watch DOG, Friday Folder Parent, PTO, etc), you must fill out a background check form. Background checks are done yearly, so even returning volunteers must complete a new form at the beginning of the year prior to volunteering on campus.

You can download the background check form by clicking on the link below:

http://www.lagovistaisd.net/upload/page/0097/docs/background.pdf

Completed forms can be dropped at the LVISD Administration building located at 8039 Bar-K Ranch Road. Please allow at least 2 weeks for background checks to process.

Weekly Attendance

We have a weekly attendance goal of 97%, and we want to meet our goal each week but we need your help! Please make sure that your child is in school ready to learn each day at 7:45 am. Each week the campus attendance percentage will be recorded here, along with grade level percentages. Students who have perfect attendance for the entire 9-weeks receives a ribbon and Mighty Fine coupon at our recognition party during lunches.

Attendance for the week of 8/23: 99% - exceeded our attendance goal! Way to go Vikings!

Counselor's Corner

Hello LVES Families! Does your child need any school supplies or a backpack? Local churches have generously donated several items, and I would love to give them to students who need them!

I am excited to begin our guidance lessons next week! Your child will learn what a school counselor does and how I can help them, as well as the meaning of this month’s character trait, Responsibility.

At home, you can talk with your child about responsibility, and teach them that by doing chores, answering for their own actions, being trustworthy, and using good judgment are signs that they are growing up and can be trusted with greater freedom! Try to "catch" your child making responsible choices, and let them know how much it means to you.
"The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence." ~Denis Waitley

Your School Counselor,

Amy Sexton

¡Hola familias LVES!

~Denis Waitley

Su consejero escolar,

Amy Sexton
