From the Nurse's Office: A Flu Guide For Parents
Speaking to Your Child about Inappropriate Language
These instances of inappropriate language that we are aware of are immediately dealt with and are followed up with significant consequences. As a teaching team, we treat each of these incidents as teachable moments and we often find that the students do not know what these words mean or why they can be so offensive to others. We are doing our best to educate our students about the adverse effects that can stem from this type of language and/or play. Our students also need to understand that at our school swear words or hateful words will not be tolerated and will be met with consequence.
I am asking the readers of this newsletter to please have a conversation with your child in the near future about how important it is not to use inappropriate language at school or in public places. I know we can't shield our students entirely from outside influences. I am not asking students to stay away from video games or other media. However, we should be aware of what our kids are listening to or watching and talking with our kids about what they see and hear. Thank you for having these conversations with your children.
