All of our choirs will have the pleasure of working with an amazing guest clinician this week. Paul Gulsvig will be with our groups Monday through Thursday this week. He is a retired music educator who now specializes in motivational speaking, team-building for choirs, and choral clinics for show choirs. The choirs are in for a real treat as they get to know Paul! Paul Gulsvig has been involved in Choral Education since 1974. In 2006, he retired from Onalaska High School in Onalaska, Wisconsin where he taught for 28 years.

Paul Gulsvig then began a new career with his own company, More Than Music. Paul's new career includes: retreat presenter, show doctor, motivational speaker, leadership workshops for high schools, in-service workshops for school districts, and show choir adjudication. He has been able to assist a variety of schools, including elementary, middle, high schools, and college and graduate programs. Having directed All-State and Regional Choirs in Nebraska, Alabama, Alaska, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, Paul has been involved in a variety of educational experiences.

Choir Auditions for the 23-24 school year begin Monday, January 23. All students must have the last three pages of the audition packet completed and signed by parents before they will be allowed to audition. Forms should be brought to the audition during the student's choir class period.

Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about choir placement auditions for the 23-24 school year. With nearly 400 students to hear, it takes a few months for the directors to evaluate each student and place them in the appropriately leveled ensemble for the coming year. Our counseling department also requests that all placements be submitted to them by Spring Break. This process will begin in January, and students can find all of the details in the 23-24 audition packet. We have given students hard copies of the packet and have also linked the packet below. If students have any questions, they can reach out to their individual director. We are looking forward to hearing all of the students and having them all in the program again next year.

If student's submitted applications for the OVATION Undergraduate Scholarship/Solo Performance opportunity, those auditions will take place on Thursday, January 26 from 4:15-8pm in room P128. Students should dress nicely for the audition and bring two copies of their sheet music (one for the judges and one for the accompanist). Students will sing 2 minutes of their song for the audition during their assigned time. This year's judges include the three Carmel HS Choir Directors as well as our guest clinician, Mr. Paul Gulsvig, and former North Central HS Choral Director, Mrs. Pat Wiehe. Come on out to the Varsity Basketball Game this Friday night, January 27, to see the Ambassadors performing with about 150 4th - 6th graders during the Half Time show! This is sure to be a great event that you won't want to miss!

Help us spread the word! Registration for our annual Summer Spectacular Show Choir Camp begins on Monday, January 30 at www.carmelchoirs.org.

Calling all students who are currently in 4th - 8th grade and who LOVE to sing and dance! The Carmel High School Choir Department will once again be hosting its annual Summer Spectacular Show Choir Camp from May 30 - June 2 at CHS. We will offer a morning session for students entering 5th - 6th grade each day from 9am - 12pm. We will also offer two afternoon sessions from 1-4pm each day, for students entering 7th - 9th grade. All groups will work with a vocal clinician and guest choreographer as they prepare three songs and dances. The week will finish with a concert for the public featuring all three camp choirs. Campers will also receive two t-shirts, music, snacks, and are sure to make lots of new friends and have a full week of fun! Registration begins January 30 and there are limited spots available. We expect it to fill up quickly, so don't wait to register. No experience required! Camp Tuition is $160.

All students performing in the Choral Showcase Concert on February 23 must complete this form by Tuesday, January 24. This includes Expressions, Counterpoints, Rhapsody, Blue & Gold Company, Greyhound Sound, & Select Sound. On February 23, students will rehearse right after school, be fed dinner, and then perform that evening. Tickets will go on sale for the event in a few weeks.

The Carmel High School Theatre & Film Department will host a Summer Theatre Camp June 12-16, 2023. The week-long, in-person camp is for students 8-14 years old. The camp will offer students an opportunity to focus on acting, singing, and choreography, culminating with a public performance of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR” on Friday June 16!

Performing Arts students ages 4-18 are invited to participate in the 2ND annual Carmel Arts Rising Star Regional competition on March 4-5th, 2023!

Beginner, intermediate, and advanced music and theater arts students are invited to showcase their talents in front of professional judges. You will be placed to compete with your age group and experience level.

We are in the very beginning stages of planning a Concert Choir Trip to Europe that would likely happen during Spring Break of 2024. The "tour choir" would be made up of any 10th - 12th grade students, in the 23-24 school year, who demonstrate a high level of musical ability, strong sight-reading skills and vocal technique, reliability, consistent integrity and moral character, and the availability to meet the rehearsal schedule and financial commitment of the trip. Students' dance abilities will NOT be taken into consideration since performances will include a strictly "concert choir" repertoire. FAR more details will be communicated in the coming weeks, but we want all students to be aware that their audition scores for placement in next year's choir ensembles will factor into their eligibility for the International Tour Choir.

At the start of second quarter, we introduced all choir classes to our On-Line Music Theory Program that we will be using this year. It is called "Breezin' Thru Theory". Students will need to login daily for assignments. They can do these on any device including a laptop, tablet, or smart phone. Their assignments can be viewed on the dashboard of the theory website, or on Powerschool. Please be sure students are completing assignments in a timely manner.
