K-5 Winter Recess Guidelines
K-4 will use the following guidelines for determining outdoor recess as we now are entering the winter months. Students that don’t have appropriate outdoor clothing should stay in the classroom with an assistant or the classroom teacher. It is important that parents be notified that students should have the appropriate outdoor attire daily.
Temperature guidelines will be set at a wind chill OR actual air temperature reading of 20 degrees as the minimum outdoor temperature for recess breaks. We will use the REAL FEEL temperature reading on weather.com or using The Weather Channel App. However, the chart below is used to determine appropriate outdoor time for a fluctuating wind chill. Since recess is less than 20 minutes, we should be prepared to be outside when the chart is green or yellow. (Except for the yellow boxes that are below 20 degrees.)
