Emphasis is the special importance,significance, value,or prominence given to a work of art, it singles out one specific part of the artwork.

ways to emphasize something include;

  • Contrast a shape with its surroundings
  • Use a darker or lighter value
  • Create a contrast of temperature
  • Focus attention on converging lines
  • Isolate the object you want to emphasise
  • Increase the intensity of color

Creating Emphasis

Artists create visual interest by making objects dominate over other objects in the composition. Dominate objects are usually the focal point.
