Beck Weekly Update

Parent Info for Friday, December 9, 2022

Hello Beck Families!

Thank you for all the generous donations to all 3 of our Beck Giving Projects again this year! The Beck community stepped in and made sure lots of children will have gifts this holiday season through the generous support of the Giving Tree to support Macomb Foster Families, Toys for Tots campaign to make sure every child gets a toy this holiday season, and the Hat and Mitten tree that will go to Friends of Foster Care Macomb! This is a tremendous way to demonstrate for our Beck students that helping others is an important act of kindness!

A joint Candy Can sale, between the BFV and Student Council, will be held during lunch times next week (Dec. 12-16). Students may purchase one candy cane per student for $1.00 each, to enjoy at lunchtime. Proceeds will benefit Student Council and BFV projects.

Report Card Changes Coming! December 21, 2022 marks the end of the 2nd marking period, with report card links typically emailed out the first week in January. However, USC is changing that process and now report card links will not be emailed to parents anymore! Instead, parents will find them loaded on their PowerSchool account. More information on this change can be found below!

Elf Shop was a big hit again this year. Students shopped for gifts for family members at the Elf Shop, sponsored and organized by our Beck Family Volunteers, and even left with their purchased wrapped and ready for giving! Hopefully gift givers will be able to keep their 'secrets' for a few more weeks!

The annual Beck Mother and Son Bowling Event is in the works! Moms mark your calendar for Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023. The BFV has organized a special outing for moms and sons at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Beck boys and their moms will battle it out on the "glow lanes" - in addition to a lunch of pizza and a soft drink! The flyer with the registration information went home with students today! Look for it in your students' backpacks!

Enjoy your weekend!

Fifth and Sixth Grade Vocal Music Concert!

We will be holding our first evening concert in a long time! Our 5th graders and our 6th choir, under the direction of our Music Director, Mr. John Andersen, will be performing for parents the evening of December 20, 2022. The concert is holiday themed and sure to put everyone in a festive mood! Parents of 5th graders or of a 6th grade choir students, will want to mark your calendar for this important event!

Note to 3rd & 4th Grade Parents re: Sing Along on Dec. 20

Mr. Andersen, our music teacher, is having our 3rd & 4th grade students sing along with our 5th graders and 6th grade choir students, on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at a school assembly. This is not their grade level performance. They will be having their own concert and evening performance later this year.

Our school assembly on Tuesday morning, Dec. 20, is not a public performance. It is just a dress rehearsal for our 5th/6th grade evening performers, and holiday school sing-along for our school!

Parents and families are invited to attend the evening performance, which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Report Card Changes Coming

Luckily, all Beck Centennial parents have a current PowerSchool account, so the changes will only be how report cards will be available to parents beginning with this current marking period's report - due out Jan. 9, 2023.

Report card links will no longer be emailed out. Rather, parents will be able to access the report cards directly from their PowerSchool account. However, this will not work via the PowerSchool app on phones. The link will only open when using a browser. Please read the information below:

Emergency Numbers Up to Date in PowerSchool?

This fall our school staff has been working with our district administration and security team to make sure we are prepared in the event of a school emergency - of any kind. School safety is everyone's priority - staff, students and parents. Our Beck staff have a bag always ready to take with them, should we ever need to leave their class, or our school. Parents, we need you to be ready, too. In the event that we need to contact parents, we would use PowerSchool to provide us with parent contact information. It is very important that those numbers you list are up to date, accurate, and reflect who you would trust with your child in the event we cannot reach you. Please take a moment and look at what emergency contacts you have listed for yourself, your spouse, and any others you name to pick up your child. You can easily go directly to PowerSchool by clicking the link below:
