The weekly newsletter from Whiteford MS/HS
February 5th, 2023
Dear Bobcat Families,
Please be aware that February 8th and 9th are our Spring Count Days for 2023. Please avoid scheduling any appointments on these days; if your student is ill, please make sure to contact the MS/HS office.
Don't forget that Spring Parent/Teacher conferences will take place from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, February 21st. These are open to all parents/guardians, but we encourage parents to set up appointments with teachers as needed if parents are unable to attend during these times.
Winterfest week at the high school will take place from 2/13-2/17, culminating with the celebration of our court members at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Summerfield. The Winterfest dance will be held on Saturday, February 18th, from 7-10 PM in the HS gym.
School Safety Update/Reminders:
In light of the recent non-credible threats at the middle school, please take the time as parent/guardians to have a serious conversation with your students, regardless of grade, regarding the importance of reporting any/all potentially unsafe activities, both at school and online. The OK2Say platform routes directly to the Michigan State Police and can be accessed via our school website at any time. In addition, students at the MS/HS have access to a "Let Us Know" Google form that is an anonymous reporting tool that routes directly to school administration. Students must always "See something, and say something."
It is also extremely important that students and parents seek facts rather than spreading any misinformation that may exist regarding reported safety situations. The best place to go should you have questions/concerns regarding safety at school would be to contact me directly at jeremy.fielder@whiteford.k12.mi.us, Superintendent Huard at scott.huard@whiteford.k12.mi.us, or our School Resource Officer, Deputy Benes, at brandon_benes@monroemi.org. Be assured that safety concerns/threats are thoroughly investigated following our board policy and handbook protocols.
Moreover, this is an important time to review safe online practices with students. Our MS/HS handbook outlines our Wireless Communication Device/Cell Phone Policy (69-71). In addition, please click HERE for "15 Tips for Teens" in regards to social media usage. Please share with your student!!
Lastly, and perhaps most critically, is to encourage our students to be warm, welcoming, and accepting of others, both in person and via social media. Creating an environment of support and inclusivity will make all students feel as though they are a part of our special Whiteford community, and would certainly curb any feelings of isolation that may lead to hurtful words/thoughts.
