Students in Grades 3-5 also brought home a letter from the Indiana Department of Education which explains how to set up your Parent Portal to view your child's Spring 2017 ISTEP+ Scores. The Spring ISTEP+ scores are set to be posted on the Parent Portal on June 19. After viewing your child's ISTEP scores you may ask for a re-score from June 19 - July 7. Since the school office will be closed during the re-score window, please send any questions you may have to Mrs. Misecko's email address dmisecko@valpo.k12.in.us .
DID YOU KNOW THAT PORTER COUNTY LIBRARY HAS ACCELERATED READER (AR) AVAILABLE THIS SUMMER?
Students can also log on to Study Island at home and continue working on grade level skills using their current log in information. This would be a great way to keep those math skills sharp.
Check out the Porter County Library for other fun and educational summer events.
Coming Next Year to Memorial
- Safe Visitor Software - Please note that we will be implementing a new procedure for all visitors to the building. Each time you come you must bring your valid Driver's License or State Issued ID. The Safe Visitor Software will run each visitor through the National Sex Offender's database. It will be also used to generate the visitor's badge. This is in addition to the Criminal Background Check already completed. Failure to bring in your ID will limit your access to the building.
- Ready Set Kindergarten - All Valparaiso Community School Elementary Schools will host a Ready Set Kindergarten Class at the school. See more details below.
- No More Late Start Wednesdays - Late Start Wednesdays will be replaced by 4 half days for students spread throughout the year. You can view these half days on the 2017-18 VCS Calendar on the VCS website. There will be two additional half days to be used for Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Memorial will have a new playground, new cafe, new gym and all new classrooms.
READY, SET, KINDERGARTEN Coming this Fall to Memorial
Parents as Teachers and Valparaiso Community Schools are bringing a Special Kindergarten Readiness program to all Valparaiso elementary schools
Parents as Teachers of Porter County (PAT) will be offering “Ready, Set, Kindergarten” (RSK) at our schools beginning September 2017. This program is for children ages 4-5 who will enter Kindergarten in Fall 2017 (Age 4 by August 1, 2017).
RSK is designed to teach children the skills needed to do well in the classroom. Experienced PAT Educators work with the children in areas of academics, motor skills, social skills and listening skills to ensure they are ready to enter school and to succeed. The children meet with the Educators one time per week for two hours in a classroom at their future home school. Activities each week include writing, cutting, listening, turn taking, and early reading. It starts with basic skills and progresses through the year to meet all kindergarten entry standards. The children are also screened with reading and developmental tools to determine if there are areas that are of any concern.
This is a GREAT opportunity for your child and your entire family. Supplies and weekly take home practice will also be provided. THIS PROGRAM is FREE due to the commitment from Valparaiso Community Schools!!! Parents will also have the opportunity to be in the classroom at times to help out and to observe your child.
REGISTRATIONS ARE BEING ACCPETED AT THIS TIME!!! Don’t Delay – Spots will fill.
CONTACT: RSKValpo@gmail.com to enroll. Please provide child’s name, date of birth and home school. Or return the bottom portion of this form to your home school. A return email with more information will follow your request including the dates and times of your requested program. Questions? You may text Jill Stricker at 219-617-8861.
Reminder – eligible children must turn 4 by August 1, 2017.
