PENNIES FOR SHOES - MAYOR'S CHILDREN'S FUND
It is time for our annual fundraiser for PENNIES FOR SHOES! The pennies you contribute help to provide shoes for under-privileged kids in Olathe as part of the Mayor’s Children's Fund. Last year our school community generously raised $38,525.36 to help support the needs of our community. Let’s raise enough money to buy more shoes for kids in our community! Look for opportunities to find a home for all those lonely coins you have with no real purpose in life. Help them find a home and give them purpose. Consider donating your loose change and check between your car seats and couch cushions for that always elusive Abe Lincoln we need so much. We have a jug in our main hallway just waiting to hold those spare pennies! We will be collecting pennies (any change for that matter) until December 9th. Thank you for your contribution to a great cause!
HEALTHY FUTURES DENTAL CLINIC - NOVEMBER 16TH
We currently have 8 students enrolled for the HEALTHY FUTURES DENTAL CLINIC on November 16th. We need at least 10 enrolled for the clinic to come to Northview for treatment. Is there anyone else interested in this important service? If so, please return the ENROLLMENT FORM - ENGLISH or ENROLLMENT FORM - SPANISH as soon as possible so we can secure the date and services!
NORTHVIEW PBIS - CAN YOU HELP US?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is how we teach, practice, and become really good at POSITIVE BEHAVIORS. We have two focus areas right now, the bathrooms and the cafeteria.
Our number one goal in the cafeteria is that students are able to enjoy eating with their friends in a safe and pleasant environment. We do have a few challenges in this space; there is one staff member to serve lunch, Miss Courtney, and one staff member to supervise the entire cafeteria, Miss Cindy. There are 6 separate lunch periods, one for each grade level, that overlap by approximately 10 minutes each. Every grade level has a lunch recess that follows their time eating in the cafeteria. All of this has to be done in a 2 hour window of time, meaning the cafeteria often has 80+ students at a time in it.
To help staff and students in the cafeteria from 11:00 - 1:00PM, we occasionally have office staff and parent volunteers that support by helping with student needs, visiting with students, and rewarding them for meeting cafeteria expectations by handing out Roadrunner Bucks. Additionally, some students have "bought" the opportunity to assist in the cafeteria by wiping down tables. We could ALWAYS use more help! If you are interested in helping in this much needed area, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Kauffman, our school counselor and volunteer coordinator! (Email wlkauffman@olatheschools.org or 913-780-7570 and ask for Mrs. Kauffman.)
Some of the non-expected behaviors that occur in the cafeteria can be: talking in a very loud voice, yelling across the cafeteria, inappropriately handling food, talking back to Miss Cindy/Miss Courtney, not listening to or following directions, etc. No matter what the age/grade, could you also help us by asking your child(ren) what is expected in the cafeteria and if they need help? Thank you so much!

OPS EQUITY HOTLINE
Olathe students deserve and should expect equity and inclusion in our schools. Students experiencing instances of inequity are encouraged to report incidents and events where they feel inequity exists so that district personnel are aware and can follow up. Olathe Public Schools has established the OPS Equity Hotline Number. Students and parents may call this number to report incidents they feel need the awareness and attention of district officials. The number is 913-780-7995.
Individuals may also email the office of Diversity and Engagement directly. Click here to email diversity@olatheschools.org.
