Mount Olive Parent Newsletter
September 2019
Note From the Principal
Dear parents,
Welcome to September! You know I say it every year, but it truly has been a fabulous start to the school year! Our teachers have focused on building great relationships with their students over the first month of the school year, all while setting firm behavior expectations and high academic expectations for their students. As I mentioned in my parent handbook letter and Parent Information Night, our goal this year is for our teachers to continue to build upon their great instruction and to "Go Wild with Creativity" and focus on continuing to bring more and more creativity and ingenuity to their teaching. We also have developed a "Families" program to help build upon our great family oriented culture by creating a student culture where our students from different grade levels not only become more interconnected, but shift towards being more interdependent on one another. In addition to these two areas we want to push our students to take more and more ownership of their learning so that they can become independent, critical thinkers and lifelong learners. I truly feel that our focus on Creativity, Interdependence and Student Ownership this year is going to help take our school to the next level as we continue to aim to be a leading school in the state.
Speaking of leading schools in the state, I want to reiterate how proud I am of our teachers and students for the amazing TN Ready results they had last school year! While our ultimate goal as a school goes beyond simply achieving test scores, we are excited that our test scores affirm the amazing academic growth we are seeing in our classrooms each day. Here are a few TN Ready facts that I highlighted at the Parent Information Night:
- Overall Level 5 Growth School for the second year in a row (1st time in school history)
- Level 5 Growth in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math
- Best Report Card Grades of Any South Knoxville Elementary School
- Highest ELA Growth of Any KCS School
- 7th Highest Math Growth of Any KCS School
Be sure to check out our state report card grades below. Thank you again for your commitment to our school and we look forward to partnering with you again this school year to ensure that your students receive the very best education possible! Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Cutter

A Note From Our New Assistant Principal
My name is Susan Davis and it is a joy to serve as assistant principal at Mount Olive this year! Everyone has been so welcoming, and I am already feeling like part of the MOES family. It is an honor to get to serve with Dr. Cutter and the dedicated staff. I'm so impressed with the students here. They show respect and kindness to each other and the staff, and academically they are doing great things!
I am a retired Knox County Schools principal. My husband and I live on a farm in east Knox County. When I am not working at Mount Olive, I am privileged to keep my two young granddaughters.
I'll be at Mount Olive this year on Mondays, Wednesdays and every other Tuesday. I'm excited to get to know you this year and look forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Susan Davis
