Busy Bee Leader Board
See the Good. See the Need. See the Whole. See the Possible.
Leaders of Learning
This week's nominees:
Sue Kolean: I would like to nominate Mrs. Kolean for helping in the library when Mrs. Fortune had two classes at once the afternoon of the Ribbon Cutting.
Tammie Earhart: I would like to nominate Mrs. Earhart for finding an extra spot of time to bring her young researchers to the library for a lesson on copyright and bibliography.
Alicia Nazar: I’d like to nominate Alicia Nazar for doing such a great job organizing and following through with the downtown walking career fair. It was such a valuable life experience for our 2nd graders and the business owners said exactly what our students need to hear. To be successful you need to work hard, take care of yourself, communicate effectively and collaborate with others! Thank you Alicia!
Aaron Ribet: Mr. Ribet ensured that we had a fantastic kickoff for our Read-a-thon last week!! His leadership brought staff members together to surprise students with a flash mob dance that had our students shrieking with joy! Thank you for your leadership!
Lisa Scales, Angie Meadows, Mary Lovett: Thank you for your willingness to help at the afternoon carline.
Making our Hive Thrive
- K – A teacher was differentiating literacy assignments by allowing students to read leveled readers.
- 1st – Teachers are teaching students a variety of strategies to solve math problems. First graders are drawing number lines and counting on and counting back using this powerful tool!
- 2nd – A teacher created an anchor chart to help students transfer information from a graphic organizer to a paragraph. She gave great sentence starters such as, “According to the text… and On page…” – This really helped the students understand how to transfer their comprehension knowledge.
Counselor Corner
From Alicia:
I think we did a great job with our new assembly procedures! I think there are still a few bugs to work out but it went well coming in. When you leave you should go out the door you came in. Second grade should go out the main doors, pre-k, kindergarten and first grade should go out the side door. Since kindergarten is seated in the front, they should be first to exit, then first grade.
I would love to hear from you about it, let me know what you think.
Just a reminder that next week is Red Ribbon Week!
You can wear jeans on Wednesday if you donate $5. Your donation will go towards Red Ribbon supplies. You can give your donation to JoEllen that day.
Also, let me know by end of day Oct 29 if you want to be entered in the dress up contest. I need more people to enter!!! Did I mention there will be PRIZES?!?!?!?!
Bee a Winner Day will be on Friday, Oct 31. At 8:30 the middle school band, cheerleaders and step team will perform for us in the gym. We will hear from a couple special guests and then parade around the block. We will end the program with freeze pops! Remind the students that we are celebrating making good choices this week.
A note from Dr. Grimesey
Southern Pines Primary School has found ways by which to preserve creative and relevant learning for our children despite the disruptions and annoyances caused by federal and state accountability mandates. You are proving that we can preserve the heart of teaching and learning while still "rendering unto Caesar that which is Caesar's." And in the process, you may yet show that students can perform well on state tests when they are taught in ways that provide fulfillment for them - and for their teachers.
Thank you for all you do to create such a great learning environment at SPP! It is tangible and I am happy to share the words of our Superintendent who recognizes your efforts and the positive impact you are having on students. Thank you!
