The 1•5•10 Intro

I can't believe February is half over! In an effort to streamline our newsletter a little bit, I have created a new design: the 1•5•10 The newsletter will be divided up into three main sections, one section you can read in one minute, one section you can read in five minutes, and one section that may take about ten minutes. Now every week you can count on the most up to date information and know that if nothing else, you always can take one minute to read the Upcoming events section. I hope that you find this new format more organized and a more streamlined way to get all the information you need about all the happenings at BCMS!

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)

Kindness RULES!

In February, my notes section will focus on the work we are doing at BCMS to promote Kindness!

Kindness week is coming! Mark your calendars for an ELITE week of Kindness at #BeBCMS.Our official Kindness Week will kick off on Monday February 26th. In next week's newsletter I will outline all the days and the performance tasks of each day! We will finish our Kindness Week by celebrating and seeing the movie WONDER with an ALL SCHOOL field trip. Scholars will need to turn in the permission slip to attend and it will cost $8.00 but it is open to everyone and we would love everyone to participate! If you have a financial need, please contact me and we will make a plan. We will outline specific behavior guidelines for our scholars but it is our intent and mission to allow everyone to attend this very special outing!

Other notes:

GMAS is coming! We will begin hunkering down on GMAS skills and every week in my March Community Newsletter I will discuss different ways you can support your child at home with preparation for GMAS.

We will have a celebration for all scholars who earned Proficient and Distinguished on last year's GMAS and we will have a whole school kick off on Friday April 27th.

GMAS this year is scheduled to begin Monday April 30th and run through May 11th.

We are very fortunate at BCMS to be almost 1:1 which allows us to test all our scholars in the morning!

Thank you for being viligant and proactive when it comes to sickness! Because of your efforts, we have seen higher attendance this year then last! We are thankful for awesome parents who are taking procautions. Also remember that if your child has lice or gets sent home because of lice, they need to be treated and checked by our school nurse before they can return full time.

We were able to do a full school RI (Reading Inventory) last week. Ask your child what their “number” is. The Lexile Stretch Band of where we need scholars to be is 997 for 6th grade, 1049 for 7th grade, and 1097 for 8th grade. A Lexile score measures a scholar's reading ability level. We will test again before GMAS and we will set goals for all scholars!

TRIBE Shop is still open! See Ms. Shelby for GEAR and of course, we are always collecting box tops!

Please take time to recognize someone at BCMS who has made a difference in your child's life. The form is below!

Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
