Conferences, one form of communication

As you all know, we began conferences on Thursday night and will finish up our conferences on Tuesday, November 12th. Thank you for your attendance. It truly takes a partnership between you, your child, and your child's teachers to fully educate your child. There are two groups of individuals that really know your child, you and their teachers. Communication between these two groups is imperative in helping your child progress. Formal conference times happen only twice a year so continuing communication between the school and home must continue to grow. Please check out my webpage for all information about our school including daily announcements and my Friday emails. Please email or call me if you have any suggestions for how we might be able to improve our communication with you.

Book fair starts next week!

Next week starts our fall book fair. The dates of the fair are Monday, November 11th through Friday, November 15th. The book fair will be open during conferences on Tuesday, November 12th. All proceeds from this fall's book fair will be used to purchase books for classroom libraries. Thanks to Mrs. Rice for her leadership with the book fair. If you are available to sign up to volunteer, please use this link.

New Special Education criteria

Wisconsin’s rule for identifying students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) has changed. No later than December 1, 2013, all initial SLD evaluations of public school students will use information from interventions to make eligibility decisions.

This letter is to notify you that beginning on December 1, 2013 initial SLD evaluations at Merton Primary School and Merton Intermediate School will begin using information from a student’s response to intensive, scientific research based or evidence based interventions when making specific learning disability eligibility decisions.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please refer to the DPI webpage at http://sped.dpi.wi.gov/sped_ld or contact Lori Viola-Larsen, Director of Special Education/School Psychologist at 262-538-2227 ex 3041.

US Cellular contest

Here is a link being run by US Cellular to provide funds for schools. If you have a moment to register and vote, that would be great. It's an opportunity for Merton Intermediate School to receive a share of $500,000!
