Sunrise Family Updates
9.29.23
Hi Sunrise Families!
It was a busy week for us at Sunrise! We were so happy to welcome members of our Door County Fire Department who spoke to our students about fire safety on Monday. Thank you for completing your fire safety plan for your home. I shared with the students that one of the fire-fighters stated, "This is best behaved 3rd grade class we have ever presented to and I have been doing this a long time." :) They expressed that all classes did a great job.
Students throughout the week traveled to Crossroads to work with archeologists on a dig site or enjoyed a presentation by the Open Bird Sanctuary. We hope some of these experiences filter their way into your family dinner conversations! While students engaged in these activities, the teachers sorted through the assessment data to group kids for WIN and SUN time. WIN stands for What I Need and SUN stands for Study Understand Navigate. Next week students will have different teachers during these 30 minute chunks to receive intervention or extension in Reading or Math.
Thank you for working on those PTO Fundraising BINGO cards and please consider donating a costume for their Halloween recycling event. The PTO does such amazing work; we are so thankful for their support.
Finally! A group of 4th grade students are creating the SB Clippers logo out of Rubik's Cubes. If you have one to donate, please drop it by the office. A 3x3 without black borders would be ideal. Thank you so much!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal

Attention 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Boys Basketball Parents/Guardians!
The basketball season is quickly approaching, which means it is time to begin preparing for our Youth Boys Basketball season. We are very excited to be getting started very soon! This message is to inform everyone about our new registration process, our upcoming parent/guardian meeting, and the forming of our new third grade team.
Registration is now open for our 4th-8th grade boys teams! To Register, please fill out this form by Monday, October 23rd!
Our 4th-6th grade teams will participate in the Door/Kewaunee Area 4/5/6 Boys Basketball League once again this season. All three grades will play on the same night, at the same place, against the same opponent.
All teams (4th-8th grade) will have the opportunity to participate in the NWBBL Saturday Tournaments along with any additional tournaments decided upon by the team at the Coach's discretion.
Practices for all teams will be held a few days per week as well. The 4th-6th Grade practice schedule will be communicated to everyone at our Parent/Guardian meeting. The 7th & 8th Grade Practice Schedule will be communicated following the Middle School season.
Our annual Parent/Guardian Meeting will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Middle School Commons.
Very important information regarding the season including team schedules, volunteering/fundraising, our NWBBL host date, and much more will be communicated at this meeting, so it is very important that you attend!
We are very excited to be offering a 3rd grade team this upcoming season!
Registration and scheduling will be organized slightly differently due to this being a new opportunity for the program, which will be communicated to interested players at a later date.
To begin to prepare for the 3rd grade season, we will be hosting an introductory open gym in the high school gym on Sunday, October 8th from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. At the conclusion of that open gym, we’ll have a short meeting with parents/guardians who are able to join. During this meeting we will discuss a cadence for open gyms, practices, games, and tournaments throughout the fall and winter.
If your third-grade boy is interested in giving basketball a try, please call or text Coach Ben Vander Velden at (303) 489-5369. Parents interested in helping coach will be much appreciated.
