One Zone, One Book Update - Charlotte's Web

Bulldogs!

April 14th will be the last day of our One Zone, One Book reading of Charlotte's Web. We hope that you have had the opportunity to share in discussing some of the memorable characters and themes such as friendship with your students. Please remind students to complete Section 4 Questions and return these on April 14th. Drawings will be held the week of the 17th.

Additionally, this year we have added two more opportunities for students and families to engage in One Zone, One Book. First, Falcon Middle School is doing a production of Charlotte's Web. To build excitement and interest, middle school students will be visiting MRES in costume to invite MRES families to attend! AND our PTA will be hosting OZ:OB night on March 17th. Staff, students, and families can gather together to watch Charlotte's Web the movie and enjoy some concessions. See the flier with all the information!

    • Due Dates: Charlotte's Web Packets have four designated sections and due dates. Please encourage students to turn these in on the set due date.

    • ABSENCES: IF a student is absent on the due date and unable to turn in their work, please email Natalie/Shelly and a prize will be placed in your box for the student.

    • LATE SUBMISSIONS: IF a student(s) turns in section questions once we have begun a new section, please just turn the ticket in with that current section and a prize will be given at the end of that time period. PLEASE DO NOT mark sections complete on your roster for Late Submissions. Only students who complete the assignment during the "section window" ALL four times will be entered into the Stuffed Wilbur Drawing at the end of the OZ:OB reading.

    • TURNING IN TICKETS: RED BARN in the teachers lounge.

    • COPIES: If you need additional copies of the packet, you can find these here.

    • CHOICE BOARD: please share this with your students on your class website/schoology for choice time. It provides great choice activities.

    • "Wear It Wednesday": Love seeing the students dress up like Fern, Wilbur, and Charlotte last week- Let's keep it going each week throughout our reading!

Movie Night! Charlotte's Web Monday April 17th @ 4:30

Become a Volunteer!

Bulldog parents!

We would love to have you support our teachers and staff by volunteering at MRES! If you would like to become a volunteer in the classroom, field trips, PTA, parties, or Watch D.O.G Dad's we need you to complete the online application and background check. This needs to be done yearly. There is a $5 fee for the background check. Also, please make sure you fill out the forms COMPLETELY or they will be in a holding pattern and stay there until complete.

The submission process does take a few days, so I recommend doing this early and not the day before you are planning to volunteer. Please click the link below.

Changing Weather & Recess

As you are aware, Colorado weather conditions can change dramatically throughout the day. Recess is held outside unless the temperature (with wind chill) drops below 17 degrees. Coats, gloves, hats, scarves, long pants, layers, closed toed shoes are all highly encouraged during the late fall/winter months.

Cell Phones, Electronic Devices, and Personal items

If it is necessary to bring a cell phone to school, the phone should be turned off and in the student’s backpack, and only used before and after school, unless used for medical monitoring. Smart watches are also considered a device and should be powered off and stored in backpacks during the day, just like phones/personal devices. Students should keep all tablets at home as computers and iPADS (if needed) are available during school hours. If you need to get a message to your student during the day, please call the school office 719-494-2909.

Students should not bring toys or other personal items to school. Items will be confiscated if they cause problems or distractions and disrupt the overall educational process. These items will be held by the teacher, or sent to the main office, until picked up by a parent.

MRES Drop Off & Pick Up

Meridian Ranch Elementary Families,

Please be sure to review MRES Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures. Your help is needed to ensure all drivers know and understand the drop off and pick up expectations at Meridian Ranch Elementary. ***Look for new signs when we return from October Break.

  • Kiss-N-Go Lanes are only for drop off and pick up.
  • Please do not park or exit your vehicle while in Kiss-N-Go.
  • Pull forward in Kiss-N-Go Lanes to keep the flow of traffic.
  • Student car riders need to wait on Bulldog Island for their car to be called.
  • Walkers or bike riders may leave once their grade level is dismissed.
  • The front lobby is designated for sibling(s) to meet one another. If their sibling is a kindergartner, they need to go the kindergarten gate in front to meet.
  • If you need to park and walk up, please park in one of the parking lots and not along Rainbow Bridge.

Health Information

If your student has a rescue medication (inhalers, epi-pens) they can be sent in along with their orders/action plans in a plastic bag labeled for the health room when you drop off your child's school supplies. Our Health Room staff will be available for medication drop off for students needing controlled, daily medication to be kept/given at school. A physician's note must accompany all medication students may/will need at school. That form is linked here.

More information can be found here - D49 Nursing Services.

Birthday Celebrations

We love to celebrate student birthdays! Teachers will celebrate students in classrooms, and parents are welcome to send in non-food items (preferred) or healthy prepackaged food (individually wrapped is helpful) and follows D49 Wellness Guidelines. Please talk to your child’s teacher in advance to let the teacher know what you plan to send in or drop off.

We have been recognized for our Health and Wellness efforts by the state of Colorado. Part of those efforts are aligning our practices to our district wellness policy and ensuring that we maintain a healthy school environment for students and staff. For more information go to Meridian Ranch Elementary School Wellness.

Another way to Celebrate!

MRES PTA would like to start a new program to celebrate student birthdays! To celebrate your student's birthday, we encourage donating a book to the MRES school library in their honor! The book could be a new copy of one of their favorites, a very gently used book that they've enjoyed, or a book from the library's wish list on Amazon.

Amazon wish list link: https://a.co/2Obnif6

Have your child bring their donation book to Mrs. Stanfield in the library. The book will get a "donated by" sticker with your student's name, and they'll get a shout out soon after on the morning announcements!

Visitors During Lunch

This school year we have a new "Bulldog Family Bistro Table," which has space for a total of four. If you would like to come to school and have lunch with your child during their lunch time, please contact the front office at 719-494-2909 to make a reservation. We can accommodate one family per grade level lunch daily. If you plan on purchasing school lunch, please indicate when making a reservation. Children not enrolled at Meridian Ranch Elementary may not visit the school unless accompanied by an adult. All visitors to the school must check in at the office with a valid ID before going to out lunchroom area and wear their “visitor or volunteer badge” at all times.

Grade Level Lunch Times:

Kindergarten 10:40-11:00AM

First Grade 11:05-11:25AM

Second Grade. 11:30-11:50AM

Nutrition Services

Meridian Ranch Elementary School offers breakfast and hot, school lunch each day. You can view more information from D49 Nutrition Services linked here.

Lunch Prices:

  • Elementary:
    • Breakfast $2.50
    • Lunch $4.00
  • Secondary:
    • Breakfast $2.75
    • Lunch $4.35
  • Adult (without milk):

Federal regulations play a direct role in setting the price of school meals and D49 is required to match government meal reimbursement rates by charging for meals. Updating our rates this year is a difficult, but necessary adjustment to continue providing meals in our challenging economy.

Lost & Found

To help with our Lost & Found accumulation throughout the year, we are asking that you please label your child's belongings with First and Last name. Coats, water bottles, lunch boxes, hats, gloves. This will help return belongings to the correct child and decrease the amount of lost items.

Thank you!
