2021-22 Volume 2

A Note from Principal Marvel

The end of first quarter is just around the corner (October 15th) and with that we are 1/4 of the way through the 2021-2022 school year. Please remind your student the importance of keeping up with school work, checking their grades and attending school on a regular basis, if not sick. StudentVue and ParentVue are great tools to keep track of class progress. Additionally, Parent-Teacher conferences will be Thursday, October 28th. We invite parents and guardians to visit with your child's teachers to discuss academic progress. Please look for a blackboard connect from me in your email in mid-October.

Have a wonderful rest of September and thank you for sharing your children with us.

Note from the Nurse

Medications: All medications, prescription or over the counter, are kept locked in the nurse’s office with the exception of approved inhalers for asthma or Epi-Pens for severe allergy. Prescription medications must be authorized by a healthcare provider accompanied by the proper, signed MSBSD form and be in a labeled prescription bottle. The nurse’s office has acetaminophen (Tylenol) ibuprofen (Advil) diphenhydramine (Benadryl), cetirizine (Zyrtec) and Tums for students who have parent permission to receive them while at school. Medications should be transported by a parent or adult representative.

Medication Authorization Form

Inhaler/Epi-Pens: If your student has asthma or a history of severe allergies/anaphylaxis and requires an inhaler, please see below forms that need to be completed annually by a healthcare provider and parent. Please send completed forms to the nurse office. Students need to have these forms completed to be able to self-carry their inhaler or Epi-Pen at the school or if they are going to store their medication in the nurse office.

Asthma Action Plan

Allergy/Anaphylaxis Plan

Health Screenings: During the course of this school year, various health screenings will take place. As per our district policy and state requirements, all new to district students will have a health screening done before the end of the school year. Additionally, screening may be requested by a teacher, guardian or school intervention team referral. The health screening includes height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and dental screening. You will be contacted if further testing or follow-up is recommended.

COVID Testing: Thank you for continuing to keep your child home and have them tested if they have symptoms of COVID. Our school has increased capacity to provide COVID-19 testing for students with parent permission. This test is a molecular NAAT test performed by a nasal swab and takes about 30 minutes for results. Contact me if your student needs COVID testing or if you have any questions about our COVID protocols.

Emergency phone numbers: Please review and update emergency contact numbers frequently. These can be updated and changed in ParentVUE. It’s very important that we are able to contact you in case of emergency.

I appreciate working with you to help provide a safe and healthy school environment for all our students
