ELA
We’ve had another great week in ELA, finishing up our first shared reading and starting the second one for the novel, Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. Next week, we’ll be digging further into vocabulary and also work more with non-fiction texts.
Week at a Glance:
Monday: Guided Reading, Shared Reading
Tuesday: Shared Reading, Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions Lesson, NWEA Test
Wednesday: Guided Reading, Shared Reading
Thursday: Shared Reading, Post-Test
Friday: Guided Reading, Shared Reading
Learning Targets for the Week:
Continue with inferencing and drawing conclusions, as well as prefixes, suffixes, and root words.
Important Vocabulary:
Inference
Draw Conclusion
Prefix
Suffix
Root word
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Draw conclusions, infer, and analyze by citing the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

Announcements: To see what we are doing in class, ask your child to show you their daily agenda on the Hyperdoc attached to Google Classroom. Here you can see the agenda as it is updated daily to reflect what students are doing each day.
Learning Targets for the Week:
- I can determine if two quantities are proportional from a table of values, determine if two quantities are proportional from a context
- I can compute the constant of proportionality
- I can explain what a point (x,y) on the graph of a proportional relationship means.
Important Vocabulary: rate, unit rate, complex fraction, unit ratio, proportional relationship, constant of proportionality
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Compute unit rates, including those that involve complex fractions, with like or different units 7.RP.A.1
Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities 7.RP.A.2
Solve problems involving ratios rates, percentages, and proportional relationships 7.RP.A.3
Solve problems involving the four arithmetic operations with rational numbers 7.NS. A. 3

Life Science
Week at a Glance:
This week, we will introduce cell theory and the history of cells.
Learning Target for the Week:
Identify parts of the microscope.
Focus a slide under the three objective lenses and analyze what we see.
Important Vocabulary:
Cells
Prokaryote
Eukaryote
Nucleus
Archea
Bacteria
Eukarea
Power Standards for the Quarter:
Provide evidence that living things are made up of one or many varied cells
Explain that cells must carry out all of the basic functions of life. Understand the functions of the nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, cell membrane, and cell wall and all organelles work together to make a cell function.
Use evidence to argue that multicellular organisms are organized by varying levels of complexity.
Describe the role of photosynthesis and cellular respiration in the cycling of matter and flow of energy in and out of organisms
Social Studies
Announcements: If students have any materials they would like to bring to school to use to create their artifact OR if they would like to create it at home, they are more than welcome!
*Study guide will now go home on Monday/Tuesday and the Unit 1 Test will be on Wednesday.
On Monday, we will also be recognizing Constitution Day. For many of our students, this will be an opportunity to explore the Constitution's history and what it means today. Although this will only be a quick peek at the Constitution, we will come back to the unit at the end of the year as we learn more about American history.
Learning Target for the Week:
- Explain what the Constitution is and how it is still relevant today.
- Present group presentations and artifacts to the class.
- Review vocabulary and important concepts for test
Vocabulary: resourceful, cultural region, environment
Power Standards for the Quarter: Explain how Native Americans adapted to their environment.
