Bison E-News
Principal Lubben's Greetings
We have finished our second week of the third quarter and the students are doing some amazing things! Students received a new planner for third and fourth quarter for their Bison Binders. As a staff, we are working on every student writing in their planner every period, every day. There is a place in the planner for homework in the class and also a space for the learning targets for the lesson that day. We really want all students to be using this organizational tool. If you have a moment, please check your child’s planner and help us to reiterate the importance at home too!
We are continually working with a growth mindset here at BCMS. People in a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be further developed through hard work and dedication. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishments. This mindset is our goal for not only the students of BCMS, but the adults as well. As we look toward continual improvement, please know we are always interested in your feedback on how things are going. With new programs like WEB, interventions like Math and Reading EDGE, and possible changes in our elective offerings for our students, it is more important than ever to hear from you as to how it is going for your child.
Thanks for sharing your child with us!
Matt Lubben
I Love to Read Month
February is I Love to Read Month
To celebrate I Love to Read Month, BCMS is reading the book A Long Walk to Water as a school. Teachers are leading read aloud on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday in Prime Time during the month of February. Students are also participating in class discussions about the book and learning more about the region of Eastern Africa and it’s water crisis.
A Long Walk to Water is a novel by Linda Sue Park. The novel tells two separate stories which are brought together in the final chapter. The first story is about Nya, an eleven-year-old girl living in Southern Sudan who must make two long walks to fetch water for her family each day. The second (main) story is based on the true life experiences of Salva Dut, who is forced to flee the war in Southern Sudan when he is eleven years old, and spends many years as a refugee before returning to Southern Sudan to drill wells which bring water to remote villages.
At the end of February, BCMS will participate in a school wide service learning project to help fight the global water crisis. Stay tuned for more details.

BCMS Speech Team
We want to give a huge congratulations to the 2018 BCMS Speech Team! This group of amazing students and speakers, along with Coach Polaschek and Coach Wester, ended the season with dozens of ribbons for superior performances. We had so much fun throughout the season, and are so proud of our speakers! This year we got to travel to four different schools to showcase our talents. We started our season in Rocori, then on to Monticello, St. Cloud South, Howard Lake-Waverly, and we ended with our home meet at BCMS. We are so thankful to all the schools who hosted us and all the friends we got to make along the way. We look forward to many more great seasons in the future!

Enriched classes 2018/19 School Year
Enriched Course for 2018-19
The majority of students find the most benefit from the individual challenge teachers give for English and math. However, because of a strong passion for a subject, some students still want to go even deeper into the topics. It is for this type of student that BCMS offers an enriched English and math class at each grade level. Your child will be receiving information about the enriched classes from their English and Math teacher. Application essays are due on Feb 23. You may also view these forms on the High Potential Services page.BCMS Music News
Travel with BCMS

Current Buffalo area 6th and 7th grade students and their families are invited to travel to Washington DC in June 2019. A tour of the monuments, a visit to the Smithsonian and the Newseum along with the Holocaust Memorial are just a few of the places we will visit.
We currently have 29 students and parents registered for this adventure. A $99 deposit reserves your spot for on this trip. Register online at www.grandclassroom.com, click “Find My Trip/Register” Buffalo Middle school.
