Collecting Student Materials
Dear Morton Families,
We are planning for the collection of student materials at Morton Elementary on May 15th, 2020. We understand that during this difficult time social distancing guidelines and personal safety remain our top priority. Student materials drop off will look very similar to our previous student materials distribution back on March 24th. This process went very smoothly!
Please send one adult to Morton to complete the materials collection process. I am attaching a list of items for you to package and label prior to May 15th, 2020.
Friday, May 15th - Collection of Student Materials
Last name (A-M) 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

It would be very helpful if you could do the following before arriving to Morton:
Place all student materials in a bag.
Label the bag with your child’s first and last name.
Label the bag with your child’s teacher's name.

Remote Learning
The last day of school for our students is May 14th. Thank you for all of your support with Remote Learning during this difficult time. We couldn't do it without you!
Elementary Grading - Remote Learning - 4th Quarter
In these unprecedented times, we want you to know that our primary focus is on the safety and security of our students and staff. If there are things we can do to support your family, please reach out to us. Remote learning is about keeping our students connected and providing some continuity of learning. Feedback is our focus, not grades. We know that each family situation is unique and that everyone is doing all they can to participate in the ways that work for their family. We also know that people are curious about how this will look on a report card. Our elementary students at each grade level will get one of the following indicators in reading, writing, and math: exceeds expectations, meets expectations, or needs improvement.
There will be no final grades for science, social studies, spelling, art, PE, or music. We are grateful for the support you are providing, and we understand that this is not easy. Please know that grades are not anyone’s primary focus in these times.
Planning for 20-21
There are many factors that we consider when placing students. Factors include: male/female ratio, academic levels, special needs, language needs, intervention needs, learning styles, behavior needs, and personality considerations among students. It is our goal to create the optimal learning environment in each classroom to ensure all students reach their full potential.
As you can see, a great deal of thought and effort goes into making these class lists. Granting every request would undo the long process that has been carefully put together. We take a great deal of pride in our process as we are dedicated to meeting the needs of all students.
If your child has a unique need that is not known to the school, please submit your request by email to Mr. Malone by May 8th, 2020. In your request, please describe your child's learning style and the type of teacher, not the name, that would benefit your child. By working together, we are confident that we can provide the best possible learning environment for each and every student at Morton.
*If your family is planning to move out of the Morton community, please contact Mrs. Snow at 402-715-1290. This information will also help us develop balanced class lists for the 20-21 school year.
Thank you!
Mr. Malone
