STUDENTS AT THE CENTRE OF LEARNING
One of our students saw the significant work around her inquiry take flight with the first of a line up of therapeutic animals arrive for their weekly visit - thank you Amy Parrish - captured in first photo with one of the therapeutic miniature horses
"Some of our students with high complexities have never ridden a bike before because it has been inaccessible to them."

COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF WHO WE ARE
Exciting times as the student-driven Designery Store, selling their handmade products out of their converted shipping container, comes to life at the front of the school
Making fabric face masks for her work colleagues has turned into a business for one Taranaki high school student. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/122452604/coronavirus-spotswood-college-student-has-own-mask-business-while-marfell-students-get-creative?cid=app-iPhone
Congratulations to Year 13 student, Esmeralda Dalgleish, who has had her artwork featured on the cover and throughout NZATE’s 100th issue of English in Aotearoa.
GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

CULTURAL AND SPORTING SUCCESS
COLLEGE TEAMS AND TSSSA EVENTS
Term 3 has been another interesting time with the return of level 2 restrictions making sports organisation a real challenge for Secondary Schools throughout Taranaki.
Our students have handled the constant changes immensely well and have shown a great deal of resilience and understanding around the postponements and cancellations of sporting events.
The TSSSA events that have gone ahead have been a great success and I’m proud of our students for their representation of Spotswood College while participating in these events. Please remember to look at TSSSA Facebook page, you will find a list of events and check out photos! There are some great pics of our Spotswood College Students.
It has been great to see our Gym up and running and it has certainly been a busy hub of action on Monday nights hosting both our Junior Boys and Girls basketball teams during the term 3 competition.
Volleyball, Netball and Badminton have also been enjoying the new facility and it's great to see all the sporting codes working together to make sport at Spotswood a focus.
Our 1st XI Girls Football team have also enjoyed the new field and changing facilities on our top field and we have certainly had a great deal of support from staff during these games.
Canoe Polo has taken off at Spotswood this year and it's great to see 2 teams competing in the local competition, We are currently top of the table and fingers crossed we can take out the title this year.
Our Senior A Netball Team has been particularly successful with some big wins early in the season cementing their move up 4 grades to finish up in section 4.The Senior B team has shown a huge amount of improvement in the last four weeks of the competition and are set to end up 2nd in their section.
A massive thank you to our coaches, both staff and community this term for their commitment and dedication to our sports teams: . BASKETBALL - Link Abrams, Cameron Moratti, Murray Robinson. VOLLEYBALL - Antony Joe, Phil Gayton. FOOTBALL - Scott Johnson. NETBALL - Tracey Eru. CANOE POLO - Donna Chadfield. RUGBY LEAGUE - Wayne Capper. MOTOCROSS - Simon Houghton. BADMINTON - Trent Riddick.

Great day of Rugby League at the TSSSA Junior Rugby League Nines Tournament in Waitara, great turnout with 6 schools participating in what was a cold wet and windy day. Our STARS boys played outstanding and improved as the day went on, unfortunately, the final got cancelled due to inclement weather which was disappointing however 4 wins from 5 games was an outstanding effort.
LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES
Kiwisport funding gave us the opportunity to run a lunchtime programme during Term 3 for our students. This program offered a wide range of activities for them to engage in and it has been great to see large numbers taking advantage of this opportunity. These included: Box Fit, Yoga, Badminton, Indoor Bowls, Futsal, Netball and Basketball.
Thank you to TSSSA, Sport Taranaki and all outside providers for helping with this programme.
