Eukaryotic Cell
Membrane bound organelle
Cell Membrane ( Animals )
The outer membrane of the cell composed of two layers and surrounds cytoplasm and constituents.
Function:
Separates contents of the cell from it's outside environment.
Cell Wall ( Plants )
Composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, glycoproteins, pectins, and lignin.
Function:
Gives cell a definite shape.
Cytoplasm ( Plants )
A fluid where the cellular organelles are suspended.
Function:
Provides medium for organelles.
Nucleus ( Both )
Dense spherical organelle/ largest organelle of the cell.
Function:
Controls heredity characteristics.
Nuclear Membrane ( Both )
Made of two membranes.
Function:
Separates the fluid inside the nucleus from the fluid on the outside.
Nucleolus ( Plants )
Largest cell structure inside neucleus.
Function:
Assemble ribosomes.
Centrioles ( Animals )
Made of triplet fibers.
Function:
They form mitotic poles.
Chromatin ( Animals )
A complex of molecules found in cells consisting DNA, RNA, and proteins.
Function:
Package DNA into small volumes.
Ribosomes ( Both )
Can be found scattered in cytoplasm.
Function:
Processes the production of proteins.
Golgi Apparatus ( Both )
Major organelle in most eukaryotic cells.
Function:
Modifies proteins and creates lysosomes.
Endoplasmic Reticulum ( Both )
A network of membranes found throughout the cell and connects to the nucleus.
Function:
Transports carbohydrates to another organelle.
Mitochondria ( Both )
Rod shaped; a double membrane bound organelle.
Function:
Produces energy.
Chloroplast ( Plants )
Found in higher plants.
Function:
Make food by the process of photosynthesis.
Lysosomes ( Both )
Membrane-enclosed organelles.
Function:
Operate as the digestive system of the cell.
Peroxisomes ( Both )
Organelles found in virtually all eukaryotic cells.
Function:
They breakdown long chains of fatty acids.
Vacuole ( Both )
Storage bubbles found in cells.
Function:
Store food and waste products.
Cytoskeleton ( Both )
Connects to every organelle and cell membrane.
Function:
Helps a cell with shape, support, and movement.
