## In The News... Dec. 2, 2016

All I can say is WOW, your kids are awesome! We spent the week traveling to 18 different countries and still have 5 more to go. The kids' projects were amazing and very creative! I was very impressed with how knowledgeable they were and how well they did presenting to their peers. They especially liked the games and trying some different foods. It was a FUN week. We will wrap up our traveling on Monday. Project grades will go home next week in your child's Friday Folder. Check out my Twitter account to see project pics and videos that some of the kids made. I will also be posting these on Facebook later this weekend.

Please mark your calendar for Friday, Dec. 16th. This is when our Holidays Around the World party will be. It will begin at 9:30 in our classroom and you all are welcome to come join us. It's always a lot of fun.

We will be wrapping up our unit on place value next week in math and begin working on adding 3 numbers. Most of the kids seem to have a good understanding of place value. This is an important skill that your child will use throughout the rest of first grade and into second. You can help your child work on this skill by having them practice representing double digit numbers with tens and ones as well as with equations. For example: 34 is 3 tens and 4 ones, lll 0000, and 30+4=34.

In writing we are working on persuasive writings. The kids all worked with a partner to write me a persuasive letter. These turned out really cute. We will continue with this next week and also begin working on How to writings.

We will be getting back to Science next week and will explore different types of motion.

I hope you all have a terrific weekend.

Take Care,

Ms. Gower

## Notes:

• BYOD- This began in our room this week. We have a few students who brought their own device and were able to use them during DEAR time and for morning work with our QR code scavenger hunt. If your child will be participating with BYOD, here are some apps that you should download in order for them to have the most use of their devices: Raz-Kids (Kids a-z), Spelling City, & QR Scanner (not reader). Also, if he or she has books downloaded on their device then they can read them during DEAR time. Please remember that you and your child must have completed the BYOD contract before a device can come to school.

## WSES- Embracing the needs of every child!
