Voyager Express Newsletter - September 13, 2019
We could not be more proud of two PPS students who were praised at Tuesday's Select Board meeting for their swift and heroic actions that saved the lives of their neighbors.
Ayden and Chayce demonstrated true courage and compassion when they noticed their neighbor's home was on fire. They sprung into action, immediately called 911, and ran next door to shout and bang on windows in order to wake their sleeping neighbors, ultimately saving their lives.
This week the Mello brothers received certifications of honor from the Fire Department, including a coveted patch and challenge coin, as well as certifications from the state Legislature, the governor and the Select Board.
Exceptional job, Ayden and Chayce! Thank you for your quick thinking and bravery. You are true heroes.

Global Learning Program
We're looking for host families to take part in our global learning exchange program! We are preparing to welcome students from Collegio San Carlo in Milan, Italy for short immersion visits this October and November.
The goal of the program is for students and families to engage in a one-to-one exchange model - to have the same families reciprocate hosting on each side. In spring 2020, Plymouth students will have the opportunity to study in Milan.
The opportunity is currently available to PPS students in grades 8, 10, & 11.
Visit the application form for more information at bit.ly/PPSItalyExchangeApplication.
Vaping In The News
This week the New York Times reported that President Trump and top health officials met at the White House to discuss ways to keep vaping products away from teenagers. The immediate concern is stemming from an illnesses linked to e-cigarette use that resembles an inhalation injury. This illness is causing major respiratory issues and in some cases death. Symptoms of the illness have included shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, diarrhea and vomiting.

Distant Worlds - Alien Life
Have you ever wondered about the existence of aliens? Discover more about this ancient question of life in the Universe, in the full length film Distant Worlds - Alien Life on September 18 at 7:00 pm at the Blake Planetarium. Distant Worlds is a beautiful planetarium film exploring one of the most enduring questions of humankind - are we alone? For millennia our ancestors watched the stars, questioning the origin and nature of what they saw. Still today we ask these questions, knowing that the Universe is a vast place filled with billions and billions of stars and planets - but yet, Earth is the only planet we know for sure to be inhabited. The Emmy Award-Winning kids show Imagination Movers returns to Plymouth for ONE SHOW at Memorial Hall on
Saturday, Sept 14th at 2pm. Last year's concert helped raise funds to start a scholarship in the Plymouth School System for kids who can't afford private music lessons, courtesy of non-profit Plymouth Rocks Events. "Music has been my life ever since I took drum lessons as a kid, and we're excited to help kids in need create a path in the arts" says Plymouth Rocks Executive Director Mike Gioscia.

Ancient Civilizations and Art Integration in Mrs. Lincoln's class
Mercury sixth graders in Mrs. Lincoln’s Ancient Civilizations class are studying Early Man. They thoroughly enjoyed creating their own authentic Paleolithic“Cave Art” in the classroom using tools and torches.
On a roll
Ms. LaFontaine's 6th-grade art class was on a roll this week. After rolling a die that told them how to draw their picture and another die that told them what to draw, students got down to work. They had to draw with two hands, or one eye closed, or the pencil behind their back. In these odd positions, they drew aliens, kings, queens, and animals. Lots of laughter was heard as these students were encouraged to think, and draw, outside the box.
Chalk it up
The classes of Mrs. White and Mrs. McCartin made sure all students left for the weekend seeing a positive message chalked on the sidewalk. Everyone needs a reminder that kindness counts, to be yourself, and to stay happy.
